Even as a T'au fanboy it's really hard to find anything good to say about this game. Some positives: it's mercifully short. 45 minutes of my playtime is leaving the game on when I went to the store. Missions can end very quickly. I think I died maybe a total of 5 times? A few times to Marines, and once because I jumped off an edge to see if that was the way I was supposed to go. The set pieces are interesting, for it's era. The real disappointment is that the game is not even bad, it's just not good. It's really very meh. It's easy to see why this game got trashed so hard when it came 2 years after Halo and just a year before Half Life 2 and Killzone. Two weapon limit with, in all honesty, no interesting weapons. No interesting mechanics to speak of. A constant barrage of KAIS SECURE THAT BURGER KING objectives. They could have had you piloting a battlesuit but inexplicably made you the strongest Fire Warrior to ever live. My own personal gripe with the game is that if you're playing this game you probably have some interest in the T'au, but the majority of the game is spent in Imperial environments, using Imperial weaponry, as they do try to realistically feed you T'au ammuni…2 found this helpful
When I was a young child at Primary School in the 2000s, 40k was a very very niche thing, and I recall telling my friends about it, none of them knew what it was, but one of my friends had this game on ps2 and gave it to me! ...I did not make it past the prison mission aha, now that I am older in my 20s I have beaten the game! To play this game you will need to have an iron will and patience. I see a lot of other reviewers did not have this and complain a lot about the difficulty of the game but, seldom do retro games hand-hold you through the experience. Pros -Voice Modulation for guard makes them not human and scary - Playing a game from a xenos/Non-Imperium Perspective is unique and a fresh experience - Neat Retro Aesthetic - Railgun (lategame) is soooo satisfying to shoot! Cons - LACK OF music - Clunky Aim and mouse Controls - Very very Unforgiving Checkpoints GAME FINISHED AND 100%2 found this helpful
An old-school FPS where one of the weaker units in the setting takes down some of its heaviest hitters, like Space Marines and Dreadnoughts. Not really consistent with the lore, but decent enough in its design. Unfortunately it boils down to going from point A to point B, and it doesn't feel all that different no matter which weapon you're holding. Still, despite its flaws it's a perfectly OK game for when you're bored and in the mood for a corridor shooter.1 found this helpful
What kind of MASOCHIST you are, if you have completed the game? 😁
Truly one of the video games of all time
I'm reviewing this positively because I love the T'au, I love classic shooters, and I just genuinely had fun with this game despite its many flaws. I completely get everyone who says that this game is bad, or even that it's just mid. In fact, I kind of agree; objectively, there's nothing special about this game. There's no music, the dialogue is repetitive, the controls are a touch wonky, and the story is better delivered in the novelization. But my main complaint is with the set pieces and the weapons. This is a T'au game. You play as a T'au warrior and answer to a T'au commander... except you will, for the most part, be using Imperium weapons. Your favorite weapons will be the lasgun, the autogun, the bolter, and then eventually the railgun, which is the only T'au gun you'll actually get consistent ammo for. The environment is almost completely composed of Imperium infrastructure, and you'll only spend the first half actually fighting the Imperium because, of course, they can't just lose a battle and have to team up with the player against Chaos. It feels as though this game would be almost no different if you were just a guardsman rather than a fire warrior. Simply reskin al…
