✦ AI summary

When The Past Was Around - Prologue is a point-and-click puzzle adventure following Eda as she navigates a surreal, memory-filled world to uncover the secrets of a transformative love story with The Owl. Hand-drawn environments, intimate everyday puzzles, and haunting violin music create a deeply personal exploration of heartbreak, growth, and learning to let go.

When the Past was Around - Prologue is the opening chapter of an upcoming adventure point-and-click puzzle game about love, moving on, letting go, and the joy and pain of everything in between.

The game is directed by Brigitta Rena, creator of A Raven Monologue and She & The Light Bearer.

This is the story of Eda, a girl in her early 20s.
Like anyone in her age, she’s lost.
She lost her way in the journey to achieve her dreams.
She lost her way in the journey to find love.

That until she met The Owl.

The man that would help her burn her passion,
the man that would help her find the spark in a relationship,
and also the man that would teach her about heartbreak.

The game tells a bittersweet tale between a girl and her lover in a surreal world consisting of disjointed rooms from memories and time. With each gathered clue, solved puzzles, and unlocked door, the girl will find her way, unraveling the secrets between her and her lover, the secrets which she used to know.

Features:

  • Personal and ubiquitous. It's a game about overcoming the past and finding the self
  • Open the treasure chest, drink tea, doing laundry. Various puzzles to solve and many mysteries to uncover in everyday familiar objects and activities
  • A sweet and whimsical journey set in a series of hand-drawn, down-to-earth settings
  • Atmospheric violin music will accompany you from the peaceful days to the angstiest moments

This game was part of #MojikenCamp, an internal upgrading program by Mojiken Studio to experiment with how to tell stories or to communicate an experience within the constraint of interactive art medium.

When The Past Was Around - Prologue is a touching and atmospheric point-and-click adventure that resonates strongly with players through its hand-drawn art style, gentle music, and emotional storytelling about memory and loss. Players consistently praise the calm, muted aesthetic (compared to games like Rusty Lake), the accessible puzzle design that never frustrates, and how the game communicates meaning through visuals and atmosphere rather than heavy exposition.

When The Past Was Around - Prologue is a compact point-and-click adventure built around memory, affection, loss, and the difficult process of accepting change. Developed by Mojiken and published by Toge Productions, it functions as an introduction to the full experience while establishing its distinctive approach to storytelling. Rather than depending on conversations or lengthy explanations, it communicates through hand-drawn imagery, music, environmental details, and simple interactions. The result is a quiet and personal experience that can create a surprisingly strong emotional impression within its limited length. At the center of the story is Eda, a young woman who finds herself uncertain about the direction of her life and the dreams she once pursued. Her encounter with the mysterious Owl becomes the foundation of an important relationship, bringing companionship, affection, inspiration, and eventually sorrow into her life. The narrative explores these feelings through fragmented memories instead of presenting events as a straightforward chronological story. Rooms and objects often represent particular moments or emotions, giving the adventure a dreamlike quality while allo…

Voices from the Sea is a short visual novel that I think works best when I treat it as a small relaxing story rather than a game with lots of things to do. I follow Cantus, a young boy who meets Maris, a mysterious girl by the sea, and their meeting slowly turns into something much more personal and supernatural. The story has a simple slice of life feeling at first, but there is a quiet mystery underneath it that gives me a reason to keep reading. It is a very gentle experience and does not try to overwhelm me with complicated choices or gameplay systems. The atmosphere is probably what I like most. The seaside setting gives the whole thing a calm feeling, and the animated backgrounds make the scenes feel a little more alive than a completely static visual novel. I also like the contrast between the cute character designs and the more emotional parts of the story. There is some comedy mixed into the supernatural elements, so it does not stay completely serious from beginning to end. The story is also short enough that I can finish it without feeling like I have committed myself to a huge visual novel. There are a few small things to do outside of simply reading. I can collect se…

I don't know what the style is, where everything is calm and muted. Reminiscent of Rusty Lake. I love it. The puzzles were easy to figure out which I like not struggling.

Игра 'When The Past Was Around - Prologue' - это трогательная и атмосферная новелла, рассказывающая о потере и воспоминаниях.
