Whimside

Very cute game, I absolutely love all the little creatures and sprites I do really wish there was more content though you could do after completing the main areas and unlocking them Really all that's left to do is just combining and creating your favorite whimlings, which is just fine, I've had fun, but there's not a lot of incentive after that, or a reason to have the game open for long periods like a lot of other idlers There's no point to just collecting more crystals after a while too once you buy everything lol, if you buy out the shop and all upgrades, there's literally 0 point to gems other than to hoard them, which is kinda sad I think having some extra content would be really cool, especially since I thought the last end constellation thing would unlock a cool area but all it does is just give an achievement and sits there Overall, I do definitely recommend the game, though like alot of other reviews i've seen, I do agree, it's really not an idle game lol, other than if you idle for some eggs and crystals sometimes, but majority, I felt like I had to be there to listen for legendary traits (the jingle) But I did have a lot of fun, even with the limited conten…

I saw quite a few reviews say this isn't an idler which I think really depends on how you play it. I've had idler games that work more like pomodoro timers and there really is hardly any input from you the player, but most idlers and clicker games I've played typically have some time input at the beginning before you get it mostly automated. Then at various progression points. Whimside is more the latter which to me makes it an idle game. and this definitely has that. You have get gem farming and egg production pretty automated then it becomes less active and you are just listening for the audio cue to collect creatures with rare traits. Some folks found that audio cues annoying but they really aren't very intrusive comparatively, light twinking and purring sounds that are very intermittent (like maybe once every few minutes if that). The rest is atmospheric and music that you can turn down. Just in writing this review the game hasn't needed my attention. I would say it's good if you need to be productive and need something to take you attention for a couple minutes as opposed to being on your phone. I'd say it is a good value for the price, at a bit under CDN$ 8. It's just a bit short, espetially for a pseudo-idle game. You can complete everything in around 20 hours of gameplay, with little to no knowledge of what you have to do. I've only looked up a guide for my last few missing achievements when I ran out of clear ojectives. It would have been nice to have the creatures "do" something instead of just being there in the garden harvesting crystals. There's little to no replayability, unless you want to endlessly redecorate your garden.

The game is cute and I enjoyed the aesthetic, even if the sounds weren't my favorite (the music stopped looping and I couldn't figure out why). I liked the breeding mechanic and spent an ungodly amount of time breeding to make some off-brand pokemon. There isn't a ton of in-game content but the quests held me through the many hours I have logged in the game since I enjoyed the process of breeding for specific traits. People call this a pseudo-idle game and I agree. The timers are short and there isn't a real benefit to leaving it idle and not interacting with it for hours at a time. If you like a pseudo-idle game, and a few days worth of hours of in-game content is enough for your enjoyment then I recommend it. The decorating and breeding could hold your fancy for even longer

Whimside is a very cute desktop pet game that you can leave running while you do other work and go back to when you hear it notify you of events. The time it can take waiting for legendary creatures to spawn means you do really need something else to be occupied with in order to not get bored or frustrated. (However, it is possible to force spawns if you do get really desperate.) The critter designs are very cute and you can breed different combos if you have an ideal in mind or to earn more crystals. I think there is still room for further expansion to Whimside if the dev feels like picking it up again, but it also stands on its own already just fine.
