Witchcraft: Candy Hunt

"Witchcraft: Candy Hunt" is a really mediocre, run of the mill 2D retro pixel bullet hell/shmup, exchanging the usual spaceship for a witch, but not really doing anything to add to or revive and old, dead, obsolete genre. This features really godawful, lazy pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded [i]despite[/i] the bad graphics, not because of them. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. There's always the hard option and the number of candies you could collect (which is not an achievement, but you could count them yourself for a 'high score'), but still, I wish that it would last longer. In which case, this is also one of the games that shows that sometimes less is more. I'm not saying that the other ones are bad. I just wanted to imply that sometimes these kinds of games are the ones which keep the flow alive. So, in short: You are a witch with cat helpers (just like the old Nemesis Arcade game), and you go after the evil Vampire who took all the candy, causing the Halloween spirit to derive... A great time spender if you like Arcade Shooters. Thumbs up

A fun little Halloween-themed Shoot ‘Em Up. Both the character and enemy sprites are nicely done and the enemy designs have creative details to them while being on point thematically. Additionally the backgrounds are quite nice as well. There is a minimal amount of story here, which acts mostly as a backdrop for the gameplay. In turn the gameplay is very competent. The different spell types are fun to try out and play around with, plus they are all viable so it mostly depends on personal preference which one you use most of the time. Also the game gets bonus points for the lifes being cats, which even contribute further by being little sentinels that follow the player and shoot alongside them. This well-made free retro game is like a little treat you may get on Halloween. Usually short-lived but delightful nonetheless.

A cute idea, but a tad on the boring side. Quit at the start of stage 2, and uninstalled when I discovered that I need to complete in a single sitting. Leave archaic designs in the past.

A fun little cute em up with a fun look. 3 levels and was a tad easy so I recommend hard mode if you are used to these types of games. Thank you developers for giving this to us for free!

A cute little shmup with a retro vibe in both the graphics and the gameplay and the way the sprites move on the screen. And that's a good thing. Simplicity makes shmups better. My only problem is the difficulty management. They chose to give you infinite credits but the difficulty is rather high so that makes long play sessions, and you might give up out of boredom on the first tries.
