About Within the Cosmos

Within the Cosmos is a single-player first-person sci-fi RPG.

The year is 2278. Humanity teeters on the brink of extinction. As a member of the United Earth Space Agency (UESA), you were one of 500 chosen for cryogenic sleep and launched aboard a starship to the secluded Adallio star system. This hidden refuge, far from the devastating war consuming Earth, was humanity's last hope for survival.

But something went wrong. Your ship arrived generations later than planned. Upon awakening, you discover a fractured society. Humanity has splintered into various factions, each with its own politics, philosophies, and ambitions. To make matters worse, a mysterious and deadly android enemy has recently emerged, threatening the fragile peace.

Amidst the tension and turmoil, you must navigate this divided world, uniting (or further dividing) the factions and uncovering the truth behind the relentless android attacks. The future of humanity depends on your choices.

 • CREATE YOUR CHARACTER: With the ability to create your characters appearance, pick your attributes, and background, you can truly create a character that is your own.
 • ATTRIBUTES: Distribute your Attribute points to establish the core of your character. Increase your Constitution to enhance your health and resilience. Raise your Dexterity to improve your speed, precision, and reloading capabilities. Invest in Charisma to navigate social interactions effectively.
 • SKILLS: As you level up, you'll get skill points which you can use across 12 skills to fine tune the character you created, allowing you to play as the character you want to play as. Want to extract information through Intimidation? Invest in your Intimidate skill. Prefer to manipulate technology to your advantage? Increase your Hacking skill.
 • HACKING: Use your hacking skills to manipulate nearby electronics. Hack surveillance cameras for visibility in secure locations, access terminals and computers to gather intel, and more.
 • PERKS: As you level up, you will also get access to perks, which will allow you to alter your playthrough in various ways.
 • FACTIONS: Encounter factions with different ideals, beliefs, and morals. Join them, betray them, or destroy them. It's all up to you.
 • EXPLORATION: Explore hand-crafted celestial bodies in the Adallio star system. As you try to unwrap the mystery that has befallen you, you will make choices which will affect the way the story develops; along with how others perceive you, and end game scenarios.
 • CHOICES: There are always multiple ways to complete objectives. You can engage NPCs in dialogue to gather information, take the stealth approach to sneak past them, or use combat and fight your way through enemies with a wide variety of weapons.
 • WEAPON CUSTOMISATION: Weapons can be customised to your liking. There are various attachments which you can use to easily customise the weapons to suit your play style.

The game is obviously heavily inspired by The Outer Worlds, and it does have some interesting ideas mechanics-wise. Story, dialogue, and voice acting are average at best (arguably below average), but since the game is made by a solo dev I don't mind that too much. However, even almost a year after release major gameplay elements still don't work properly. Quests are broken. Quest tracking doesn't work properly. Gunplay is unbalanced (the sniper rifle for instance feels like a peashooter). The map overlays stopped working at some point, which not only disables quest markers, but fast travel as well. Another issue I have with the game is that character attributes are fixed after character creation. Upgrading your character is done through skills and perks only. And progression feels quite slow. Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Love RPG? It doesn’t have the same budget or polish, but it captures that familiar feeling of exploring a reactive world and making decisions that matter. GOOD: ✔️Hand-crafted world ✔️Solid sci-fi atmosphere ✔️Multiple ways to approach situations ✔️Great story with multiple endings BAD: ❌Bugs in quests ❌Looks simple and a bit cheap ✔️7/10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0R6U01BeHQ
And don't forget to Subscribe to my Youtube

Join my Steam Group
I really, really wanted to give a chance to this game. It's been developed BY A SINGLE PERSON FOR EIGHT YEARS. I mean that should count, right?... well, no. There's a simple rule: if you are a newbie dev and make a hobby game, DON'T ASK FOR MONEY FOR A TRIAL PROJECT THAT IS FULL OF BUGS I mean there are such issues with this game that could've been fixed ages ago. Some of these: - some surfaces just straight up not making your walk sound, so you literally are noiseless. Extremely immersion breaking. - Certain UI issues which can force you to Alt-F4 as you can't move (like try clicking on the map icon where you can't fast travel a few times) - You can fall out of the map as it's unfinished a lot of places. I mean really? The list could go on, but there's no point. Also QoL is just nonexistent here. You can't just fast travel anywhere on the map with icons, only "social hubs" (so, towns). Performance is ♥♥♥♥ on a mid-to-high performance PC with generic and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ graphics where changing anything doesn't help with FPS. Overall: I'm sorry, but this is just not enough if you want to get paid. I was giving it too much to prove and so I can't refund.

I like this game! Is it perfect? no. Will it compete with triple A titles? no. But is it a great effort by a solo dev to make a game that is interesting and fun? Definitely yes. I have not run into any bugs except one stopping my smg from working. All other weapons, containers, vendors, etc. have been working just fine on my run through. I have just made it to Alios and am looking forward to finishing the game. Too often we judge games by solo developers as not good enough compared to huge blockbuster games. But it is very hard for solo devs to get their games to a playable level, let alone a game like this with an interesting plot. Also, the developer is still releasing updates and I think that is pretty good. The game isn't expensive and I hope more players will give it a chance.

i tried to give this a chance. it has so many bugs still. fatal errors, some quests not working, inventory changes, your character changes, very bare bones kind of fallout skeleton game. not worth 14.99 not worth the 50% off i paid. I get that you are doing this yourself, but the price tag is way too high for this when it's in the state that it's in.
