This review is subject to change as I get further into the game, but after around the first hour of gameplay, I can't really recommend it, for a few reasons. I'm not a subscriber to the whole "it's good for only being made by one person" idea. The game is either good or it isn't. There's been games made by one person that are better than games made by 100 people. This game unfortunately is not one of them. This game feels like it could have used a couple more years in development. Positives: - Level/world design is really simple to grasp. If you get lost/can't find something, you either have never played a video game before, or have brain rot. - Game has a sense of humor that I enjoyed. - The environments are good. There's tidbits of environmental storytelling that I enjoyed. - Could see how the gameplay loop can be addicting, doing quests, getting upgrades from outposts, getting new weapons/equipment from quests, etc. Negatives: - Not sure why some of the reviews mention how good the writing is. The game is very in-your-face about it's "humanity sucks and we're causing global warming" messaging. It's not wrong, but could use a little more nuance. The writing doesn't do enough…

Graphics don't exactly look 2025, dialogues might be a bit cheesy, story is bonkers, yet somehow it kind of works out. Environments are nicely decorated and care was put into creating the game. A couple of notes: - When launching the game and having my PS4 controller plugged in, the camera constantly points upwards and rotates. This cannot be stopped. - Considering the environments are big, I'd increase the main character's stamina or even remove it completely, as to speed up traversing through the maps.

For me, this game is a work of art, and I consider it a unique effort that I enjoyed highly as a game and as a experience. Yes, it is janky and quirky, sometimes you have to work to solve some unexpected oddity. But the creativity, emotion, humor, and amount of detail put in the story is truly amazing. And all within the constraints of a solo dev resources, it is a wonder. If you find a bug (Asylum, FIRST talk to Jim in the basement, only then grab key in storage room farther on) just load a .reg file made previously as shown below. Grateful to you, Andy Natusch, for so much heart poured into this. ( Lovely Jessie voice, too, memorable character, and all the rest, Jim, Dolly, Zip, Bargo, Snart, and those funny aliens ). A haunting story, in the best sense. ------ - Define you key layout in the Input Tab of the launcher. - Escape in dialogues: shows your possible answers. - Tab : skills. - Backup your saves once in a while ! Windows Start with right mouse, execute/run, regedit (careful here), find/unfold: Equipment/PC \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Crafty Game Lab Select "Crafty Game Lab", Export, Save with any name you want, you can number your saves, put a description…

So, even for the low price, I cannot recommend it. There are several reasons. 1) The game doesn't tell you when it saves your progress. There is also no way of manually saving to be sure. 2) Mouse sensitivity cannot be changed. 3) The game collects data on you, which I only found out by chance. When you go to %appdata%\LocalLow\Crafty Game Lab\Humanity\Unity\52a065e9-3261-499d-8b96-b91b8baa6cae\Analytics and open the "config" file with a text editor, you will see that the game is configured to send analytics data to... someone. You're not given the option to even opt out, despite the fact such a variable exists in that file. 4) The game is abandoned by its developer, as he's working on a survival crafting game now. Which we really did not need any more of. And which we can expect to be of the same poor craftsmanship as this game.

Difficulty curve is real but good bang for your buck. Gives real indy-dev fallout vibes.
