WRC 4 FIA World Rally Championship

the actual game is fun but unfortunately the game is built for ancient hardware and will stutter constantly even after disabling vsync and anti aliasing, installing dxvk just led to the game crashing or video freezing and the audio being stuck on a loop, for a 2 dollar game this will just be an unfortunate case of what could have been, maybe it would run better on my laptop with older architeture? i honestly dont know.

sounds cut-off everytime a rally session is finished, causing you to restart the game. performance is hilarously bad, for a second i thought the game was mining crypto. and sometimes the game just straight up refuses to load. avoid.

this is the best entry on WRC you can get on Steam, the post ones are very inconsistent, sometimes laggy, sometimes buggy, sometimes both, and from WRC 7 onwards you get mostly the same game up until WRC generations. I swear, the same menus, the same things to do, everything is more of the same. The most recent entry on WRC Series is locked behind EA anti cheat, making it unplayable on Linux, it could be just sad, but they made it unplayable more than a year AFTER release, which made a lot of people angry, reasonably. While WRC4 is not perfect, its very consistent on what it delivers to you. I really love it. This is not my first time playing it on steam, i have much more hours than what shows here, and i will have many more, the replayability is okayish, again, arguably better than anything that came after, except the newest one, which i sadly have to use a VM to play.

WRC4 Review AND a useful hint: WRC4 is an older rally title that feels flat with the standard configuration data.mix file. The driving is far too arcade-like. However, if you install a realistic tire and physics mod from ModDB, the whole experience changes dramatically for the better. The controls might still not feel as tight as those in WRC 5–7 from KT Racing, but this small mod file provides a big improvement. The AI drivers do become a bit too overpowered with the mod, though, meaning you have to drive like hell to win. I definitely recommend using this mod if you seriously want to enjoy WRC4. Try driving the Mexican stages with it, and tell me you didn’t have to push your skills to the limit to beat Sébastien Loeb in the highest WRC class. I’ll say it again: with the factory settings, the game can be played half-asleep because of its easy and boring driving behavior. But I promise that with this mod, WRC4 becomes genuinely challenging and much more satisfying to play. The graphics are at a PS3 level, and technically, the game is a bit dated, of course.
