X-Angels

X-Angels is a hybrid roguelite deckbuilding RPG developed and published by Barance Studio that blends strategic card battles, visual novel storytelling, and mature anime-themed content into a surprisingly engaging package. Really fun with the card system. Steam trailer and pics don't do it any justice so definitely try it out for yourself. The H scenes are pretty good too, even if some parts in the game can be a little glitchy or iffy with....word choices, lol. Hard recommend. Some of the dialogue is hilarious so for the guys out there, beat with caution. One itty bitty, teensy weensy, little tiny bit of feedback/recommendation: When you hit lvl 10 affection with a selected heroine, you unlock a cute little happy ending if you make choices with them at the end of the game. However you also unlock the ability to run the story again with their Depraved route. Do NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT PICK the depraved route for the pink haired cinnamon roll. I started down that path and had to take a three week break before coming back to finish the consequences of my actions. If you're a deranged psychopath yourself though, or if you ignore story for the "action" then you might be fine but at least I've made my PSA about it. Recommended at full price without hesitation.

[h3]Gameplay[/h3] This meets the standard for a deckbuilder game but the mechanic design hurts the game more than helping it. A lot of builds are unique but they somehow didn't hit the "it feels so satisfying to play this build" sweetspot for me. You start with a set of basic attack defense card and you can purchase more specialized cards for your heroine in the shop. There's no limit amount of card you can have and every card goes to your deck pool which is available during the fight. Which means if you always choose to gain card as battle reward or just buy whatever card you want to try (which I think is a pretty normal reaction when you just started a deckbuilder and trying to figure out the build of character but you don't have access to every card she has) you'll ended up with a very scattered hard to play deck. You can delete cards in the shop but as you play more you realize you'll only ever remove the basic cards because they do nothing special. Making the deckbuilding looks having a lot of freedom but is actually restricted. You are trying to get rid of obstacles more than having actual growth most of the time. Damn good deckbuilder. There are MANY parallels to Tamer Vale here, though instead of pixel graphics it's far more normal/anime. The various character archetypes are really good, and UNLIKE Tamer Vale, I didn't have to grind mindlessly for upwards of 50 hours to unlock everything. A couple of really good QOL things I like: +There is an 'Unlock All' button for the H-scenes in the gallery. I didn't touch it, but I know people enjoy that. +It's actually really fun to unlock all the variations, and the mechanics are fairly easy to grasp. +Runs aren't super long +Every single character is capable of building game-breakingly strong decks WITHOUT mixing and matching with another character, but that only adds to the variations. Besides the QOL stuff though, there's just a lot to like about the game in general. The sex scenes are really hot, though half of them start with rape. Every girl has quite a few in general too, let me think about it.... looks like 7 scenes? (first recruitment scene, then 5/10/ending affection, on 2 routes each per girl). Good and fun. Gameplay varies based on the heroine you chose first and the R18 animated CG is fine af. Game is also not long and if you don't want to bother replaying repeatably to unlock the other CGs, you can just full-unlock it in the gallery. Though, I recommend replaying it to try out the other heroines' combat playstyle before full-unlocking the gallery.
