About Yomp for Zhi

Yomp for Zhi is a difficult turn-based RPG about a journey across Holtoss (a region riddled with crime and dangerous creatures). The unlikely heroes have a limited amount of days to rescue people who are going to be killed (including the titular Zhi).
  • No backtracking.
  • No getting lost.
  • 0 HP means a character is dead for good.
  • Fast paced with no long animations.
  • Brutal long lasting injuries/ailments.
  • 41 different characters to hire along the way (and 2 secret non-canon ones).
  • 150+ enemy types!
  • 6 unlockable difficulties and 2 unlockable bonus modes.
  • Most enemies can become temporary allies (referred to as Homies).
  • Dozens of enemy factions so enemies can often be seen attacking each other.
  • Weather conditions (including fog that can obscure the identities of enemies)
  • Under certain circumstances, enemies can return for revenge if they aren't killed.
  • The overworld often has an overwhelming amount of choice (hunting, shopping, selling, stealing, gambling, combining items, working, panhandling, fishing, etc.)

Things to note:
  • A mouse is highly recommended over using a laptop touchpad.
  • No controller support.
  • A successful run usually takes around 1-4 hours. There's a "Save & Quit" feature so you can resume a run later, but loading it will discard the saved run.

***UPDATE*** - So the dev was kind enough to add a save-on-exit mode for the game! Awesome stuff. :) Now we can continue our progress towards rescuing our girl Zhi! :) Original review - VERY cool RPG, sadly it needs a save feature, a feature which with we could really play at our own pace. Otherwise though it's pure gold really, lots of options, lots of scavenging, hiring new peeps, equipping them and crafting and so much more. Fun combat with a lot of options and leveling up to learn even more Skills. Even has a pretty nifty card game you can play for money called Strigtig. I dig this, wish it was expanded upon even further. Cheers dev! :)

This game has so much amazing character that each run feels like it's own unique adventure with it's own story as you pick up different hires and fight different enemies which is great because you will be starting a lot of new runs if you hope to beat it on even the standard difficulty! The streamlined overworld keeps the pace going and the HUGE enemy and ally variety keeps the 50th run just as fresh as the 1st. The higher difficulties force you to learn and utilize more of the mechanics and the bonus modes add even more replicability! All this wrapped up in such a unique world that feels like it's deeper than what we get to see in the game. Not to mention the banging sound track that changes to set the mood. I'd say it's more than worth the price tag with the amount of game you're getting.

It's a cool turn-based game, with some brutal status effects, like brain trauma or broken ribs. Currently the only issue I have is that there's a bug when loading saves, which causes most party members to become very large (or some of them invisible maybe?), to the point that you can't see them at all. Will update if this gets fixed. EDIT: It seems to be due to Regional Format. If I set that to, for example, English (United States) the saves work fine. According to patch notes for version 1.17 in the game files this was already fixed, but it seems like the issue persists. ***EDIT 2*** The bug is fixed!
