Yokai Tales is an enjoyable game. I think Roguelite and Rougelike players will have a great time. The artwork reminds me of Cuphead and the battle system requires strategy and provides a challenge. https://youtu.be/6h81MnFI5tQ?si=UUaVTxDiMRmKsnWG

This is a great game with the VP Games charming art style. The only thing I will say is the Raiju stun lock is annoying, and you gain stars so easily that you end up with too many to spend, especially if you always pray at temples. Big fan though, people who love mythology and Slay the Spire or other turned based combat roguelites with great 2D art should check out. Looking forward to the new Japanese metroidvania you've got in demo. Top down metroidvanias are okay and Grumpy Jack was fun, but side scrolling is where it's at. Peace out.

Yokai Tales is a creative take on a party-based roguelite. While the game advertises playing as Tanuki, they are always transformed into Yokai, one of the spirits you are fighting against. After you unlock a Yokai, you can spend MP to transform into that spirit during combat. You are assigned random unlocked Yokai initially upon starting a run (campaign or skirmish). Transform to gain its stats and elemental advantages! The tutorial is pretty good and gives you enough information to get started. Unfortunately there is A LOT of stuff to understand, which I will get to in a bit. But even though the campaign is really difficult at first, keep trying! Keep going! It will eventually make sense. You need to figure out the strategy before you will be able to beat a run, and that will take about 10 hours, although my notes here will help. The important information that isn't covered in the tutorial: 1. The Yokai you are "using" drastically affects the character's stats in addition to their elemental advantages. You might transform and suddenly have very low strength. There are a lot of stats, so figure out which ones you really need to watch, and check the stats before transforming.…

I playtested this game and the few bugs that were found were rapidly fixed, one of the few downsudes is the heavy impact of rng the other one is the lack of explaining how the game work but after a game of 2 you'll know how it works so it isnt that much of a problem

What a fun little game. It’s got a cool concept, transforming costing ever-increasing mana, becoming your foes, juggling type matchups with mana costs. I like being able to go backwards on the map too, and managing the need for experience with the increasing shadow of the map, it adds depth. The art is well-done, if not my preference, and the price is pretty spot on. It’s a great game to keep on your second monitor while in a queue, or killing time in general.

I'm giving the game a thumbs up as its a one man dev, very cheap, and functionally fine. However, I have a lot of issues. I’ll list my thoughts down below, both positive and negative. + i like that you can go back and forth on the map. + game is visually nice, remind me of early cartoons or flash games, and music is the same +I like the idea of doing well in fights leads to more currency +I like that shrines offer the option to push the void back so you can explore more. It feels like a meaningful choice. -the game’s really easy and i wasn't really engaged with most fights. By the 2nd area I was destroying everything, and when I took a 50% hit to my hp in an event on the final map I didn't really feel it at all. I didnt do the elite of the 3rd area cause i didnt wanna risk getting stunlocked (having done a skirmish on the 3rd map i would have 100% been fine, however) but the boss fight was easy as ♥♥♥♥. really i think the bosses are just kinda bad. they just seem to be aoes, a status effect and not much else. I also recently did a skirmish of the 2nd map and halfway through said skirmish I was almost one shotting most enemies and killed the boss before they could act. While i…
