The area was fenced off by the military.
To study this phenomenon, volunteers began to be sent to the quarantine zone for a small fee.

You are one of those volunteers. Your task is to survive as long as possible in the zone, study the strengths and weaknesses of the zombies, and also kill two special zombies, which, for some unknown reason, received special abilities.
Gravedigger. Appears at the cemetery in the village. Very strong. In close combat, hits with a shovel. In the far distance, summons three more zombies near you.
Fisherman. Spawns near the waterfall. In close combat, it hits with a hook and a fish. In the far distance, it dries up a person, causing intense thirst.
Also, people remained in the quarantine zone.
Hunter. All his life he lived in the taiga, and when the dead began to rise from the ground, he finally lost his mind and now kills everyone who approaches his hut in the forest. In close combat, it hits with a hunting knife. shoots from afar from its double-barreled sawn-off shotgun. The knife and sawed-off shotgun, if you're lucky, can be picked up as a trophy after killing a hunter.

Players consistently criticize ZAR as a poorly executed asset flip with severe technical and design issues, particularly noting abysmal lighting that makes the game nearly unplayable, confusing mechanics with no clear tutorials, and tedious survival systems that don't function logically. The sparse open world, overwhelming zombie spawns, broken resource management, and lack of meaningful gameplay loops create a frustrating experience that most players recommend avoiding entirely.

Warning: Asset Flip!
ZAR is a Digital Homicide style asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The Russian "developer" paid for/pirated a few Unreal Engine asset store packs, dumped them all in a blender, and submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers. This asset flip is an extremely badly done "survival" game (ripped off from someone's survival game template and implemented badly with a few flipped zombie assets on it). The Russian asset flipper couldn't get the template right so the lighting is off and everything is dark, rendering the asset flip mostly unplayable. Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, and whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests. The "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, so this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware. As I entered the game, the first thing I noticed was the INCREDIBLY HIGH quality of the game models and the use of the only video game engine, Unreal Engine 4. I clicked new game and my heart was struck with admiration when I experienced the sheer amount of options available to customize the character. I spent what felt like a millennium creating the perfect specimen for what was sure to be a WHALE of a time. I entered into the actual game and found myself surrounded by darkness and some trees. Given my knowledge of the popular fanfiction, Minecraft (Dream x George x Technoblade) I figured I would have to punch the tree, but alas, this was not the case. Scared and confused, I continued on my way through the trees until I came face to face with my first enemy. His name was Mr. Zombie, at least that's what I named him. Our battle was, to use a term from the game's graphic settings, epic. I clicked relentlessly and I was down to a sliver of health when I triumphed against the menace. I celebrated my victory by dying to another zombie. This experience shaped my views on life and the nature of the universe. The darkness of the game obviously corresponded to the darkness of space. I sat,…4 found this helpful
This game is not good, and I played it for much too long. The controls are only explained in the menu. There is no running, and no stamina. Food and water meters are absolutely pointless, as the Zombies you kill drop food and water and you have to kill zombies constantly. There is no music; there is only sound effects, and there are no sound effects from currently walking Zombies. Good luck getting slapped from behind because you didn't see a Zombie in the darkness following you for about half a mile. The game does not clearly explain that you START with 3 weapons: a knife, a pistol, and a stronger pistol that looks like an AR. It is semi automatic. There is no reason to use the pistol - Zombies will drop fresh ammo as you kill them, so you will never run out. The knife is NEVER to be used, as there is no kiting mechanic in the game and you will lose half of your health to a single Zombie. When you first start the game, you'll have "EPIC" quality graphics. These make the game unable to see, unless you have the magical flashlight in the trailer enabled. You can remove the "EPIC" quality shadows, and you can see in the world. When you near the town, the shadows will dissipate. I …3 found this helpful
I'm not sure what keeps killing me, because the lighting is so bad I can't see anything3 found this helpful
I've played a lot of filth in my days but this is beyond one of the absolute worst. The map is GIANT despite having ONLY 3 landmarks/buildings. You have to keep reloading your save so you can get the correct spawn, what do I mean by that you may ask? You will die of dehydration for one, easily, there is only 2 water sources on the map and they are both to far away to survive literally any journey. The zombies spawn so often and RIGHT ON YOU that you will die within 1-4 minutes, havin only completed 5% of your journey to one of the 3 bosses in the game, you only get 50 bullets and zombies take 3 shots each and you'll fight on average 8 a minute so you wont have ammo to kill the bosses cause there is also no loot. Now the only way to even SLIGHTLY be able to win is to make a new game until you get a very specific spawn for each boss to minimize walking distance because if you have to kill any zombies at all you'll die because no ammo and good luck getting knife kills, ain't happening, the safest places is the mountains aka the corner of the maps but even then you'll die soon after hitting the ground, This game is terrible and not worth so much as 1 cent. Easily a 0/10
