About Iron Fisticle

✦ AI summary

Iron Fisticle is a modern twin-stick arcade shooter that captures the relentless action of 1980s classics while adding randomly generated dungeons, roguelike progression, and over 150 items to discover across multiple playthroughs. Its fast-paced score-driven gameplay, couch co-op support, and hand-drawn pixel art deliver that authentic arcade thrill without needing a pocket full of quarters.

Iron Fisticle is a challenging twin-stick shooter that requires reflexes, speed and quick thinking to master. It takes the classic arcade arena shooters of the mid 80s and drags them, axes flying, into the 21st century.

Inspired by truly old school arcade games right down to the (optional) scanlines themselves, Iron Fisticle is both a retro game and a reinvention of a classic genre, with multiple routes through the game, bonus stages, a large variety of weapons and enemies, clever boss fights and much more:

• Classic twin-stick arcade gameplay meets modern accessibility, with controller support, achievements and collectables; endless supply of quarters and blistered thumbs not required.

• Randomly generated dungeons keep the gameplay fresh and offer a new experience every play-through.

• Re-live multiplayer as it was designed to be, with simultaneous two player local co-op.

• Multiple stats upgrades and weapon pick-ups change the way you play and fight in each game, while roguelikes-style persistent character upgrades allow you to explore deeper after every death.

• Over 150 different items to collect ranging from score boosters to weapons and power-ups.

• A scoring system that encourages fast paced risk taking while encouraging experimentation and discovery - like all the best classic arcade games.

• Retro-styled, hand-drawn pixel art graphics running at 60 FPS for a fluid action experience, complemented by excellent chip-tune inspired music and audio effects from Andy Lemon

It gets repetitive after a while, but it's a charming little twin-stick shooter. I loved the art and music, and the ledger describing all the collectibles is cute. It is fairly engaging too. I had a lot of fun while it lasted - wish it had more variety.

Iron Fisticle starts easy but gets HARD quickly. Like old-School arcade difficult. You clear the enemies on each floor from top-down perspective and then choose the next floor. There are some light roguelite elements, and the combat is fun. I liked it and I'm terrible at it.

Cites classics like "Gauntlet"; Food doesn't heal. 🤦 That's not what earned the thumbs-down tho. No, it was disregard for player input prefs. Not everyone has a gamepad available all the time, or for that matter even wants to use one. Personally I get bad RMI from thumb sticks going all the way back to OG Tomb Raider, yet I have played everything possible w/ mouse and keyboard in the whole intervening time, and have no problem w/ that. So, here my alternative is to use keyboard which consists of two "arrow-key" setups, one for each "stick". (WASD to move and IJKL to shoot.) But, oops, now another problem: u have to have a pro keyboard to really play like this, because if u are doing diagonals, which of course you are, your $9.99 Inland keyboard ain't gonna have the rollover for that. Also prone to RMI because on rectangular form-factor keyboards, one wrist or the other is going to be majorly bent to play w/ both hands on kbd. So, now we're on to ergo keyboards! But now we're hit w/ rollover limit again, cuz those don't really overlap w/ gaming, and if there is one, I'm sure it's >=$300. 🤦 Possible resolution exists w/ some other input adapter utility but I can't be arsed…
