✦ AI summary

Players praise the sequel's quirky atmosphere, excellent soundtrack, unique art style, and engaging mystery-driven story that matches the quality of the first episode. However, common frustrations include poor onboarding and lack of tutorial (with hidden mechanics like the day/night toggle never explained), short playtime of 2-4 hours, clunky controls with delayed direction changes, and a frustrating maze section with slow backtracking that significantly diminishes the experience.

This sequel has you exploring the town to resolve the conflict that arose at the end of the previous episode. It's a neat town, but do note that the time of day affects who and what will show up, and that's tied to your PC clock. An NPC tells you this during the day, but if you work during the day, and can only play this at night, you'll never know; bad move. You can also switch between day and night by pressing P; it never tells you this at all. Overall, it just isn't quite as good as the first episode; it's still plenty weird, and I loved that, but it ends with one of those mazes where choosing the wrong direction takes you back to the very beginning, and only some of the screens have clear visual cues as to which way to go. And it takes you back SLOWLY; your patience is wearing thin, but you still have to wait for it to fade out and back in without the ability to move EVERY TIME. Everything is slow, even pressing the button to skip the text crawl; controls are very delayed in most everything that isn't just walking around. That's a problem in the first episode, too, but it really starts to wear away at you here.

"Baobabs Mausoleum Ep.2: 1313 Barnabas Dead End Drive" is a 2D pixelcrap game made for the Nintendo Switch (the Nintendo Switch can do primitive 3D graphics so there's no excuses for the laziness here) where you control what looks like a 12 year old's attempt at interactive fiction... a vampire who works for the FBI, to solve a mystery about dinosaurs. I correct that, 10 year old attempt at interactive fiction. Gameplay is basically "I can't believe it's not an RPG Maker asset flip" JRPG with all the roleplaying and combat removed... yep, a crap "adventure" game where you RPG Maker move around environments, and click through badly written dialogue with the NPCs. This is pretty awful... but at least it's not AI slop or an asset flip? Just because a game is genuinely and ethically made, doesn't mean it's good. And yes, it doesn't matter which sequence it launched on which platforms, this was designed for the lowest common denominator... it's a Switch game. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. Because this is designed for handheld/portable gaming appliances, it carries a number of deliberate de…

Baobabs Mausoleum Ep.2: 1313 Barnabas Dead End Drive is the kind of adventure that embraces confusion, absurdity, and surreal humor as essential parts of its identity. Developed and published by Celery Emblem™, it continues the bizarre journey of FBI agent Watracio Walpurgis, an investigator who also happens to be a vampire eggplant. That detail alone gives a good indication of what to expect. Instead of building a conventional detective story around recognizable rules, the game throws the player into Flamingos Creek, a ghostly town populated by strange characters and governed by logic that frequently feels like it came directly from a fever dream. This second chapter revolves around Watracio's attempt to escape Flamingos Creek, but exploration is arguably more important than simply reaching that objective. The town is presented with a more open structure, allowing players to wander around, investigate its inhabitants, progress through the main storyline, and encounter secondary missions. Flamingos Creek consequently feels less like a collection of rooms connecting puzzles and more like an intentionally strange location waiting to be investigated. Its population of only 64 residen…

Just as Episode One blew my mind, this one did as well.. Again, this is one of the more strange games I've played but just as enjoyable as the first!! Just like the first, it's so quirky, the puzzles are really easy or really NOT.. It's honestly just a bag of everything I have been trying to figure out what to write but it's just one of those games where you really have to explore for yourself.. The controls on some parts were a little flawed and you have to play through a second time (unless you're REALLY careful on the first) but the story was cool enough to warrant the second.. There are a few glitches here and there but honestly, the humour in the game makes it better! Would recommend :)

Positives +good soundtrack +consistent over-the-top atmosphere +decent writing (apart from virtue signaling "racist rights" joke) +cheap +nice sprites Negatives -short (my playtime is not accurate because I AFKd, it's actually around 2-4 hours) -have to play previous free game and buy next episode If you want to understand what's going on -no tutorial or even key remapping/guide (I played with controller and got seriously stuck because one crucial mechanic was not possible to use with it) -clunky controls (character changes direction with delay), only crucial in one fight -weird autosaves (there are only 2 chapters and one of them is rather long and game autosaves after you finished it) For me it was worth, for you? decide for yourself

I love the Baobabs series, but i have to admit that I enjoyed the first episode more. Don't get me wrong, this episode has everything you love from episode one, but it seems like the developers used too many "cherries" (episode one had many amazing "cherries", but episode two just consists of "cherries", which makes it not as outstanding :/). Cons: - there was no introduction in controls, which is usually fine, but I forgot that I could shoot, cuz its kinda long ago that I played the first episode >.< - the map is ♥♥♥♥ ;D (like for real, dude where are the details?)
