Thimbleweed Park™

Thimbleweed Park is a classic point-and-click game and it is a truly amazing game. I had a lot of fun playing it. It definitely has some of the issues, though with point and click games where some of the puzzles are so obtuse that they become a little bit frustrating trying to figure out. I played this game completely on the steam deck docked to a TV and I had no real issues playing the game as it runs perfectly fine, I additionally used an Xbox controller and had no issues. This is a great game and definitely a must play if you’d like this genre, it’s not super long and the achievements are fairly easy to get. I really have no complaints about the game, I’m not great at this genre so I had to use a guide to get through it on my first play through, but I still had a blast. I highly recommend this game. It runs perfectly fine on the steam deck, though I haven’t tried it on the steam machine. I assume it’ll run perfectly fine. 5/5

I really wanted to like this one, and maybe I'll return to it at some point and update this review but already I can tell this is falling flat for me on both a writing and gameplay perspective. As to the gameplay, maybe this is a skill issue but I'm really not digging the multiple character elements, it feels weird and clunky. The world design doesn't feel right either, there are just way too many screens and it feels unfocused. I've played a lot of adventure games and this I can't quite place my finger on it but it's just uncomfortably designed. The daunting task lists don't help this feeling either. For the writing, maybe this is me being a decade late to playing it but an hour in I can tell these jokes are falling flat to me. I feel like I should be finding this funny, lord knows I liked monkey island, but it's just... not. I'm disinclined to continue.

[b]Thimbleweed Park — 10/10[/b] As someone who grew up with point & click adventures in the 90s, [b]Thimbleweed Park feels like a love letter to that entire era[/b]. The pixel art, weird characters, dry humor and classic inventory-based puzzles immediately reminded me of the old LucasArts days. I especially love that the game doesn't try to simplify everything for a modern audience — you actually have to think, experiment and occasionally feel completely lost, just like back then. The multiple playable characters, the strange little town and the mystery surrounding it all kept me hooked from beginning to end. [b]What I loved:[/b] • Fantastic retro pixel art • Clever, proper old-school puzzles • Great humor and wonderfully strange characters • Multiple playable characters • Tons of references for classic adventure fans • Feels nostalgic without feeling outdated For someone like me who still considers the 90s the golden age of point & click adventures, this was an absolute joy. More 4th wall breaks than should be allowed. Very funny and tongue-in-cheek, but later chapters take the p I s s a bit in the amount of backtracking, item combos etc. I needed a guide to be able to finish it. Still good fun.
