The Bogtavern

Very successful dark/horror atmosphere. Simple game with a good translation. Not easy to get all the achievements. Overall grade 8/10

Bogtavern is a hybrid between a exploration game and a text adventure that is lacking. The entire game is based around navigating as far as I can tell 6 maps where you search for events. There seems to be one off events and chain events that require docking at a location multiple times. Each zone into a map will activate points of interest that you have to find or skip for the next map. The core concept is really good but the gameplay is lacking at best. As much as I enjoyed the story I did see, I will say do not get this game. Pro: -Amazing setting and story -A unique method of handling the text based story and the spacing through the game -Consistent and well themed visuals cons: -The game only has 6 maps as far as i could tell. With one playthrough I'm quite certain I've seen the same zone 6+ times. I think I even zoned into another entrance of the zone I had just left after entering the fog. -The boat controls are slow and not very responsive. It fit the theme of the game to have a slow boat but it just got old and annoying. -There are events that can branch the story but no real means of tracking these storyline points. Solid and unique game, worth the time to play

As someone who loves to just be nosy and look in every corner for secrets, this was right up my alley. I loved it. Also the sound design was horrifying, I was half convinced I was going to start getting chased

Atmospheric horror game about the professor & the capt'n as they cruse around a swamp on a boat. story trickles out over time but great atmosphere & soundtrack, if you want a slow gentle jumpscare-free horror story to enjoy over an evening it may be a good choice for that.
