✦ AI summary

Beyond the Ice Palace 2 is praised for its beautiful retro pixel art and engaging chain-based combat mechanics that encourage learning enemy patterns, but players consistently complain about unresponsive controls, significant checkpoint gaps in later levels, ledge-grab delays, and quality-of-life issues like unskippable intro animations and lack of a map. Most players who finished it found it enjoyable despite these frustrations, though the consensus leans toward waiting for a sale or update rather than purchasing at full price.
Review
Beyond the Ice Palace II is, although linear, an MV, aesthetically nice, with basic combat, a versatile weapon, and notable game design issues. No map, bad checkpoints, and erratic difficulty.

The Highlights

Really enjoyable pixel art. It looks to me very faithful to the old 16-bit era. It has a lot of resemblance to Super Castlevania IV.
Your main weapon is a chain. The combat itself is not complex, but that isn't negative or amazing either. You can basically sling the chain forward or use a stronger charge but smaller in range, and also, by dodging an enemy attack, you project yourself behind them to deliver damage. Besides the combat, there is a wide usage of the chain in the overworld, so I argue it's positive.
The game is very linear; however, you acquire new upgrades and do backtrack to explore closed-off sections. Some people, and some mistaken people, would say that it's not a Metroidvania because of that, but I argue that the game has enough backtracking and upgrades that it suffices to be part of the subgenre.
There are these crystals that you can collect in the ov…

A game that dared ask the question of what if castlevania but with buff blue dude? Honestly it's a lot more than just a tribute to old school gaming. It's a solid and fun rump through what feels like a metroidvania lite. The movement mechanics are fun, enemies actually require use of you abilities to defeat and the presentation is beautiful.

I played the original game back in the day and decided to give this a try. Overall, I liked it, and although the controls were a bit inconsistent and there were a shade too few checkpoints in later levels, I did finish the game. It definitely feels quite old school, but is still an enjoyable platformer. I especially liked when the theme music from the original game popped up, with a clever reference to the original game.

Bad: - Devs like to waste players time - Intro movie plays every start of game, no one wants to watch it more then once, i should not need to hold for multiple seconds to skip - The title screen has a animation that forces you to wait also, at least give a option to hit any button and instant skip it - The controls are floaty as they get, but I can feel this is by design so I can live with it. - The ledge grabs have this huge delay between when you think it should grab and almost a second after when it actually does leaving a horrible feeling every ledge grab. Really bad design Good: - Pixel art is top notch, artist should be proud of themselves - Strong Rondo/SOTN feel to the game which I adore - Bosses are fun but not too hard - Enjoying my time, getting this on sale should be a no question purchase. I paid $12.99 and that is more then worth what I got out of this game. Verdict: - Get it no question, despite devs making some annoying design choices. It is fun.

This game is awesome looking and the premise, but the execution is lacking. They really need an update to fix the chain... it thinks on its own and doesn't really feel the input your poressing, It is nerve wrecking. The world built is awesome. I wish they had a quality of life update. For instance being able to see down. When you get upgrades see on your character. I loved the wings. But I feel their should be some story there. Non the less I love playing this game. Another error I encountered is In got the chest...aka rubbies or whatever and just cause I got killed it disappeared from my inventory, which means I can't upgrade my characters strength stats. If I can't upgrade it means I can't better my character to face harder enemies meaning I'm stuck. This is a huge BUG , and needs to be fixed immediately. I can take a chain to progress to travel to the next level not working ,but not my upgrade pieces that I worked hard to retrieve. These both are major issues and will turn people off the game immidiately. Developers please fix this awesome game. I want to be A+ status and get a third installment. Their are too many female metroidvanias lets even it. …

Bugs and lack of checkpoints make this "work of art" not worth it.
