Starless Abyss

Game rips. Cool pixel graphics, epic elder god bosses, sweet space ships that you can soup up a little bit. A kinda typical deckbuilder roguelike path/progression complete with a hidden 4th act. Some positional strategy to freshen things up.

It is a rogue-like deck builder, so yes, randomness can make or break your run. But I love the positioning gameplay, the 'story' choices you can make(and the dice to cheat them), trying to build decks based on what I get(most recently, turrets everywhere, and allowed my last ship at 2/1 to kill the final boss; it still counts HQ) and have definitely been enjoying this. Edit: Runs can be won or lost based on chance, and it really, really sucks to reach the final boss when you've finally got a good build, only to die because the build offered was not the 'right' one. Still fun, but I'll be mostly avoiding the final boss.

I saw this on humble bundle and was immediately interested. Deckbuilders with tactical maps are so rare (everyone wants to be Slay the Spire or Hearthstone). I am not that big on Eldritch horror but the sci-fi theme is working for me. They go the extra mile with card effects. Simply selecting a target ship for your shield recharge card looks cool. I am disappointed that I didn't learn of this game earlier.

I like the turn-based combat. Played only two runs so far, and won both. Felt relatively easy to me. And the run is over quickly enough. Deck-building is fun, too. Not everything is explained well enough though. And I am afraid I don't think I am motivated to do many more runs. Still, for the price it is a solid game, where the devs certainly poured their hearts into it.

Excellent space rogue-like. Love the story too which is always great in a rogue-like. Seems like lots of viable strategies although there are clearly some crazy ascendant ones (which is totally fine, you won't always get them). I have really enjoyed the radioactive faction and the cloaking faction so far. Excited to unlock more factions and hear more of the lore. Difficulty seems just right to me, I win a lot but don't feel like it's easy at all. My first win came down to the last HP on my last ship that was given to me as an emergency measure haha.
