Assault Suit Leynos 2 Saturn Tribute

This review was originally a PSA about the really strict gear unlock mechanics of the original Saturn version. However, this version allows you to unlock additional gear on New Game + cycles, a feature that was not originally present. This is a massive quality of life improvement, basically the only thing wrong with the game beyond a steep learning curve.

a very damn good mecha action game but the main game can be finished in less than 2 hours I recommend getting the game when its on sale

This is surprisingly difficult! Everything is well made, though.

beautiful pixal art and cool mechs combined with such abysmal gameplay that only people with stockholm syndrome would call this good.

Assault Suit Leynos 2 Saturn Tribute, brought back to modern platforms by CITY CONNECTION, feels less like a remake and more like opening a time capsule from the late 90s. Originally released on the Sega Saturn, this version preserves the identity of a hardcore mech action game that was never widely accessible outside Japan. What makes this re-release compelling is not just the chance to experience a lost title, but the way it unapologetically retains its original design philosophy—one that prioritizes challenge, precision, and thoughtful preparation over accessibility or modern conveniences. Way back when I was sad we weren't getting this. It's indeed a treat to see that in further down ages some of these classics get their chance for porting finally. It can seem a lil confusing at times, particularly at first, but once you realize you can sort your weapon sets to controls as you like htem, even in game without doing the external mapping for the controller, and that you can get some second chances, it's a good venture. I haven't finished it yet, been busy with other things, but glad to have it in the library for now and future. I also have another one of the Assault Suit games recently regained on the Switch and that was a nice trip down memory lane. Frankly, we could use a LOT more assault suit style like games, and I'd really like to see them take more of a venture back into the 3D space again. Western mech design is cool and all, but I do want to see eastern mecha get more kinds of love like the Narutard, Bleacher Bums, and other martial arts crowds get. A mech game with optional cell shading, some art style, good frame rate, and not try to re invent the controll wheel too much, just give us something like Lost planet or basic FPS or third person combat like any …
