About Bionic Commando

✦ AI summary

Swing through a devastated 3D cityscape using your bionic arm to traverse towering skyscrapers, solve environmental puzzles, and fight your way through terrorist forces in this true sequel to the 1988 classic. The dynamic physics-based arm mechanics let you realistically grapple, throw massive objects, and manipulate the environment in ways that define the entire experience.

The first true sequel to the classic 1988 Nintendo Entertainment System original, Bionic Commando sees the return of the bionically-enhanced Nathan "R.A.D." Spencer. Time has not been kind to Spencer: Five years after his heroic defeat of the Imperials, he has been betrayed by the government he swore to serve, imprisoned for crimes he didn't commit, and sentenced to death.

On the very day of Spencer's execution, terrorists detonate a massive experimental weapon in Ascension City, unleashing an intense earthquake that has turned the city into rubble and wiped out its population. With the terrain in ruins and the city's air defense grid now in the control of a massive terrorist force whose goal remains unclear, the FSA have only one option left - a behind-the-lines assault.

It's the perfect job for a Bionic Commando.

Bionic Commando transposes the much loved swing-and-shoot gameplay of the 8-bit original onto a stunning 3D environment of towering buildings, suspended roadways and monorails, deep canyons and sheer rock faces, which are traversed using swinging, scaling, climbing and wall-walking techniques.

Key Features:

  • Use the bionic arm to swing between towering skyscrapers at breathtaking speed, hook onto distant objects, zip up on hanging girders and choose your own route through the game
  • Gameplay that moves through horizontal and vertical environments - a 3D game that truly uses all three dimensions. Full multiplayer mode with rich stat-tracking to check whether you're a true commando or a lowly private
  • Use the power of the bionic arm - and of next-gen physics - to realistically throw massive objects, pummel opponents, whip enemies into the air, or pull the landscape apart
  • Arm yourself with a variety of weapons worthy of a Bionic Commando
  • Starring Mike Patton, the former lead singer of Faith No More as the voice of Nathan Spencer
  • Developed by Swedish studio GRIN, developers of the highly acclaimed Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter series for PC
Bionic Commando takes advantage of the Steam Cloud by storing your save games in the cloud. Simply pick up where you left off when you log into your Steam account on any PC.

Players who own both Bionic Commando and Bionic Commando Rearmed will enjoy access to three unlockables in Bionic Commando, including the "Retro" Nathan "R.A.D." Spencer skin, a Prototype Weapon and a secret room in the Fissure level.

so far the game is acutally not too bad to play, sure the grappling is gonna need some getting used to, but over all its not too bad, and yes i am well aware of the infamous twist about that arm, all i can say is WHY!?!?!

A fun enough game if you can get it for cheap, and play in bursts of an hour or two. It's a very typical X360/PS3-era third person shooter: linear, going from arena to arena really to battle some mobs, while you unlock more and more abilities for your bionic arm along the way. There are areas where movement is a bit of a slog as Spencer walks really, really slow, and there aren't always good points to grapple on to swing yourself forward. But when you fight in an area with some verticality, where you can swing over or under a group of enemies, and then score a good grenade hit after launching yourself in the air, it feels really good. I also really liked the music. And every line of dialog from Groeder, of course.

Flawed and very unforgiving at some points, but still very fun to play.

Only got because it was in a bundle with Rearmed, which was the same price (or lower I think actually) as the game by itself. I came in with an open mind, knowing how infamous this is, while also hearing some say that the swinging mechanics were actually kinda good, but no, this game doesn't feel that polished, the combat feels pretty lackluster. There's not even an aim button, so the shooting kinda feels unfocused and a bit inprecise, and it also doesn't feel like a real gun, more like a toy with how it feels and sounds. The combat with the arm isn't that much better, either, just some basic punch attacks and a zip attack which is kinda neat. The swinging is fine, but also pretty unrefined. Honestly, I'd say it kinda feels like a prototype from like months to a year from completion or a game made by someone who was described what an action adventure shooter game was from a game of telephone. Oh, and a minor issue I had is there's no keyboard and mouse controls, so I couldn't map my controller's gyro to the mouse for gyro aim. Then there's the story, the most infamous part, yeah, it feels like it's trying way too hard to be tough and edgy, that it just feels shallow. There's a reas…

I don't remember this game being so hard to manuever on XB360. Do I need a 360 controller?
