Drifter

No updates. Dead game.

This was one of the games that taught me to never buy early access. Years ago it showed promise, a sort of 2D, simplified sandbox space game. Then it was abandoned and I'm never getting my money back

- [b]Drifter's[/b] Kickstarter ended in [b]2012[/b]. - Drifter has not received any update whatsoever since [b]2018[/b]. - In [b]January of 2022[/b], the creator updated Kickstarter to say (among many things), that we'll start seeing updates soon and that we'll hear from them again, soon. They also said that it is clear the game will never be what they had hoped and cited various issues like the $81k the Kickstarter raised being insufficient, having ADHD, transitioning, etc. - [i][b]We have not, in fact, hear from them soon. Or ever, as of the middle of 2025[/b][/i]. Thirteen years later, there is no reason to believe the game will ever be done (or even updated). Even the creator has all but stated that they have given up. I would, at this point, expect that any update/release would just be to get it "over with" and off their mind by saying "it's now 1.0!, we did it!" when all that will likely have been done is ticking the version upward. Things happen. We all wasted our money. I have no ill will, but absolutely do not purchase this game. If, by some miracle, a finished product ever arises, I will gladly revisit my review.

~12 years since the original Kickstarter, 6 years since the last update even occurred. Another developer who just took advantage of Early Access to line their own pockets and then abandoned the project. And still the store page remains up and still lets suckers buy it... My advice, don't. This game is like Star Citizen, it will never be done, without looking nearly as good nor having nearly the ambition that Star Citizen does. If you want to throw money away, at least throw it somewhere where the dreams and promises being made warrant the forever-in-development status.

Crashes for me whenever leaving a station or doing anything that might be more graphically significant. My computer is able to handle much more intense games, but not Drifter. Was unable to find a fix that worked.

I like it, A simple space game.. Better than StarField.
