Can't initialize network game. Winsock2.2 is not installed. Broken & Unsupported: The game is severely outdated. Multiplayer is fundamentally broken, and the lack of developer support means you’re essentially buying a "as-is" single-player experience that struggles on modern systems. Missing Features: It lacks basic Steam integration. no Workshop for mods, no Trading Cards, and no modern flourishes to justify a digital purchase in 2026. Clunky Controls: The UI is a nightmare. There is no WASD camera control in indirect mode, and you can't toggle a unified control scheme for both modes. Plus, it still relies on the archaic Left-Click to move, which feels counterintuitive by today’s standards. Progression & Bugs: The "Repair Tank" quest is completely broken, often doing nothing and soft-locking your progress. Compounding the lack of depth is the total absence of a soldier leveling system, leaving you with no sense of growth or veterancy for your troops. Verdict: Skip it. Unless you have deep nostalgia, the technical hurdles and broken quests make this a frustrating relic rather than a playable classic.

This was my introduction to the Men of War Franchise when I was a younger; I had the CD case back when they sold it physically. With other options on the table, this game is now outdated graphically and mechanically, but it maintains the same soul that the other games still have. It's usually very cheap and for the campaigns of all the countries I'd say it's worth it.

Faces of War is the direct sequel to Soldiers: Heroes of World War II and the missing link before the Men of War series. Built on an improved version of Best Way's GEM engine, it expands on its predecessor with larger-scale battles, smarter AI, improved physics, and even more tactical freedom. The core gameplay remains the same: you command a small group of soldiers in real time, where every unit, vehicle, and piece of equipment matters. Success rarely comes from brute force alone—you'll constantly have to improvise, manage your resources, exploit the environment, and adapt to changing situations. Compared to Soldiers, battles are much larger, with friendly AI forces fighting alongside you, making the battlefield feel far more alive without sacrificing the series' trademark attention to detail. The game features three campaigns from the Allied, German, and Soviet perspectives, covering some of the most iconic battles of the final years of World War II. The atmospheric orchestral soundtrack deserves a special mention, as it perfectly captures both the intensity of combat and the somber tone of the conflict, making every mission even more memorable.
