About Wooden Floor

Wooden Floor is a first person adventure horror game inside an old house that seems normal but the further you progress into the game you start to realize that rooms change if you close a door behind you and whole corridors appear out of nowhere. Not being able to predict what is going to happen next or where you are heading for you need to make your way through the increasingly maze-like becoming house to find a way out of this bad dream that you just woke up into. The only thing that goes with you is the wooden floor underneath your feet.

Gameplay Features:
  • Level Streaming -> changing, appearing/disappearing, rotating rooms, corridors and objects
  • Unreal Engine 3 graphics (UDK)
  • Maze-like becoming house and environment (expanding environment)
  • Puzzle Elements (Keys, Collecting and some Jump 'n' Run or Platforming)
  • Adequate Scares (no screamers)

✦ AI summary

Wooden Floor is a budget-friendly indie horror game that succeeds with atmospheric tension and solid visual presentation, running well even on older systems, though it suffers from a lack of meaningful gameplay and story depth that makes the brief experience feel more like an empty walking simulator than a fully realized game. Players appreciate its focus on atmosphere over jump scares and acknowledge it as worth trying at its low price point, but most find it too short and lacking in engaging mechanics or narrative substance to warrant a strong recommendation.

I reckon it needs more wooden floors. Maybe I would enjoy it more.

The more horror games you play, the harder it gets to review them. You're never quite sure whether you have seen the most boring and quickly put in Unity engine or similar, or not. Well, I admit I've seen worse, but it's still a bad game without gameplay. It's not a good walking simulator either, as it lacks a story and anything that would make me actually want to walk further.

Developed and published by pheenix93, Wooden Floor is an independent first-person psychological horror game that places players inside a mysterious house where the laws of reality no longer apply. Rather than building its identity around combat or relentless monster encounters, the game focuses on creating unease through a constantly evolving environment that keeps players questioning every step they take. As you venture deeper into the mansion, familiar rooms begin to change, hallways appear where none existed before, and the structure itself becomes an unpredictable puzzle. This unusual premise gives the game a distinctive personality, emphasizing psychological tension over conventional horror clichés. The game's defining mechanic is its shifting architecture. Built with Unreal Engine 3 and utilizing dynamic level streaming, the mansion continuously transforms as players move from one area to another. A door that once led to a recognizable hallway may suddenly reveal an entirely different location, while rooms twist, rotate, or rearrange themselves without warning. This design keeps exploration engaging because players cannot rely on memorization or conventional navigation. Ever…
