Flynn: Son of Crimson

Old-school 2D platformer that is chill to progress through with classic art and music to boot. Basic story keeps you going to the next stage and the different unlock and level mechanics keep things interesting enough. Mostly linear but the small amount of doubling back for challenge stages, hidden items and reuse of maps for the scourge are done decently without making things feel repetitive. Couple of fun boss fights toward the end a very chill play experience.

This is a pretty decent platformer in my opinion. The story and gameplay feels normal to me but that probably because I've played tons of platforming game in my entire life. The story is just a simple save someone without heavy plot twist and such but the gameplay is where the game shines. The skills you can unlock make it more fun to attack enemies, the level design are fine and boss battles are fun. The normal enemies do feel a little buff though which can make it feel like a chore to attack them. Also I love the pixel art a lot, it's really beautiful. You can see the soul and hard works of the artist throughout the game. Overall it's alright. Not really for a hardcore gamer but would feel nice to a casual gamer

Really just a nice and nostalgic feeling game; really enjoyed it.

I can easily recommend this game to anyone and if Youre a platforming fan, You just found a gem.

At a minimum, I expect a game to at least have consistent controls--they might be slow, bad, or poorly responsive, but I should be able to at least predict what's going to happen when I press jump, especially in a platformer. Somehow this game doesn't even meet that standard, as I found my character casually walking into pits instead of jumping over them. Aside from inconsistent controls, this game is a very dull slog and, in the first 10 levels or so, didn't find a moment of fun gameplay. The character moves slowly, attacks slow, falls fast. The platforming is poorly designed (e.g., in one area, I had to keep waiting for the inexplicably disappearing rock platforms to reappear so I could proceed--not just at the first set, but at each of three sets of consecutive disappearing platforms) and unchallenging. The 'puzzles' I've encountered are so extraordinarly simple that I'm guessing they were added to pad out the time to beat the game (because they aren't fun and require no thought or skill, but take a little chunk of time to complete). The story seems bland and levels are very linear. There seems to be some kind of currency, but I don't know if it's ever redeemable or just exist…

A great retro platformer.
