YIIK: A Postmodern RPG

playing this game with a pure heart and no preconceived bias against it from negative reviews is highly recommended. amazing battle system overhaul, as someone who never played the old one but is playing it in NG++. jesus christ it sure was something. god praise be the dark game. 60+ hours on this game and i still haven't seen everything it has. somehow one of the most psychologically mind numbing yet beautiful stories ive ever experienced. unpopular opinion, but despite how insufferable he is alex is one of my favorite indie rpg protagonists ive played as. hes so interestingly horrible, but i think I.V definitely helped to cement the fact that he wasn't just born that way, to say it in a non spoilery way. please play this. please please please play this game. play the NG+ as well. also, buy/read deviation perspective. please

This is genuinely the most misunderstood game out there that I can think of to this day. What a creative masterpiece. Anyway.... I'm gonna go and browse ONISM1999 now! See ya!

This game will stick in your brain no matter what you think about it, I beat it this January and I'm still trying to think about how I feel about this game. With that being said I had a great time when I was playing the game.

YIIK IV is an underrated gem with some things left to be desired. Alex Eggleston is a 25 y/o returning home from college, and right out the gate you can tell he's a flawed character. Without spoiling much, he's an unemployed self centered man-child that lives with his mom. The story is told from his perspective, traversing the town he grew up in and the neighboring towns, gathering a party together to find a missing girl. All of the characters speak with a similar verboseness to Alex, which makes sense given the fact that he is the narrator. A lot of the story is left up to interpretation, and I think it's worth browsing the fandom to see what the general theories are. As far as gameplay goes, YIIK is a fairly standard RPG. There's some minor puzzle solving and visual novel elements, (Most of which is fully voice acted!) and plenty of explorable space and battles to grind. My only complaint around the gameplay is that the combat tutorial is extremely confusing. For whatever reason, the tutorial explains everything in the most convoluted manner possible. its sureal, it has a good turn baced combat system, it has a facinating anti-rolemodle type mane character playing the role of narrorator, it tells a reletively symple story in an absract way expecting you to follow simbolism and figure out whats going on yourself. its niche its weird and i like that about it
