If you like open world games that reward interactions you will love this game

One of the worst JRPG I've ever played!

Octopath Traveler II faithfully recreates the feeling of old-school 8- and 16-bit JRPGs with a modern coat of paint. First off: the soundtrack is beautiful (the Brightlands day theme is awesome) and the HD-2D style along with the set pieces create an amazing look. The remainder of what I'll say is either good or bad depending on your taste. The plot is highly non-linear: 8 separate plots can be played in any order and have a personal feel rather than having deep engaging plots. Combat is really boring with random encounters and they are frequent. Bosses can be very interesting though. Sometimes too interesting: several (especially the endgame) pull surprise mechanics on you and can wipe your team quickly, resulting in repeated trial and error approaches. I'm not one for thinking hard about how to break RPG mechanics (but maybe you are, and you'll love the challenge!), so it really felt like the game was twisting the knife at times. Overall I enjoyed roughly the first 85-90% of my playtime (this was finishing the side stories and the 8 plots). The endgame I could do without, but the game has several natural stopping points, so it's not so bad. So I can recommend this for anyone …

It's an ok game. Graphically beautiful due to the lightning and mix of 2D and 3D assets. Combat is pretty much what you would expect from any turn based rpg, the innovative part is that you can store power and use it to enhance your attacks making them hit multiple times or with bigger strength. There's also voice acting for most important dialogues so that's a big plus which you don't usually find in these games. The worst part for me is that there are 8 stories with 8 characters total which are all completely disconnected from each other and none of them has been particularly engaging for me. The fact that most of chapter 2s of these stories require levels 18+ before you can play them made me forget about them even more. Like i started with Hikari and his story about his brother stealing the throne of the empire from him and killing their dad and after i was done with the intro (chapter 1) i think chapter 2 asked me to be way above level 20 before i could do it. So i was forced to farm or go do the other stories which i didn't care too much about before i could continue Hikari's one. I understand that it's the way the game is intended to play, bouncing from one story to another…

Octopath Traveler II improves upon its predecessor by strengthening character interactions through more Travel Banter, Crossed Paths episodes, and a Final Chapter that brings all eight protagonists together. While the characters still feel somewhat disconnected during individual storylines, these additions make their relationships and the overall narrative more cohesive. Exploration remains one of the game's greatest strengths, allowing players to freely traverse most of the world from the beginning. With optional dungeons, hidden jobs, a ship for sea travel, and countless secrets to discover, the world feels larger and more rewarding than ever. The turn-based combat system continues to shine with its Break and Boost (BP) mechanics, encouraging strategic planning by exploiting enemy weaknesses and maximizing damage at the right moment. The Job System has also been expanded with secondary jobs, EX Skills, and four hidden jobs, offering greater flexibility and experimentation. Combined with satisfying combat and meaningful character customization, the game delivers a deep and rewarding gameplay experience.
