Energy Invasion is an unabashed, lazy ripoff of Breakout (Copyright Atari/Warner Interactive, 1972). Many lazy "amateur" developers don't pay attention to their obligations under copyright law, and often steal the ideas of actual, real game developers without credit, such as the "developer" here has done. At this stage no legal action has been taken by Atari/Warner Interactive against the "developer" here, but it's never off the table, as previous copyright law cases have shown. Putting aside the unethical intellectual bankruptcy of stealing someone else's game concept for profit, this is also breaking that unwritten law of stealing other people's game ideas... you should at least try to do better than the game you're ripping off. Energy Invasion is considerably worse than Breakout. There's fundamental design problems, not least of which is the godawful garbage dubstep soundtrack as the developer decided his only hope to try profit from this before Atari filed a DMCA complaint was to scam trading cards and compete with Spotify's Skrillex playlists. Actually treating this as a game is futile... there's a couple of game modes, ugly, lazy graphics, and the biggest problem, beca…

I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of y…

Energy Invasion is an experimental take on the classic brick-breaking formula, developed and published by Sometimes You. At its core, it builds upon the foundation laid by timeless arcade staples like Breakout and Arkanoid but attempts to inject a new layer of mechanics and visual intensity to stand out in a genre that has remained relatively static over the years. Instead of simply bouncing a ball to clear blocks, the player now has an additional element to manage—a missile system linked to the ball’s trajectory. The concept is intriguing, promising to merge the reflex-driven satisfaction of brick breakers with the tactical precision of a shooter. Unfortunately, while the idea has creative merit, the execution feels uneven, resulting in a game that struggles to balance innovation with playability. The first thing that sets Energy Invasion apart is its control scheme. The player still moves a paddle at the bottom of the screen to bounce a ball upward, but now each bounce also enables the firing of an energy projectile in a direction controlled by the right analog stick. This introduces a dual-layered challenge: managing both the paddle’s position and the direction of attack simult…
