Dead Effect 2

I actually enjoyed the first Dead Effect—it was definitely scruffy and janky, but it had a clear B-movie charm that made it fun. Unfortunately, I just can't bring myself to play Dead Effect 2. The weapon muzzle flash is so blindingly intense that it physically hurts my eyes, and the game offers no graphics settings or toggles to reduce, dim, or disable it. It’s disappointing because there might be a decent sci-fi shooter in here, but a basic lack of accessibility options makes firing a gun completely unplayable.

Huge upgrade compared to the previous series' installment, with brand new dissapointments! First -- the good. Combat is fluid and satisfying. Player progression is real. Sprint actually works. The game adopted a looter-shooter-ish mechanic of obtaining new gear, which is not bad at all with the chosen multipliers -- even freshly-dropped weapons are all usable, and upgrading them to max is uncostly. You can also easily pick brand new weapon or armor in between each mission with how lucrative the earnings are. And about weapons -- we've gotten melee! Dual wielding! All the standard game stuff has arrived! Level design has also gotten MUCH better and I haven't met the deadlock problem anymore. Skill trees with varied options are a very welcome addition. The ship's environments are also a bit more varied now. Overally, it's a nicely done and pleasing, even if not special by any means, shooter with zombies aboard a spaceship. The plot... oh girl, the plot. It goes fine, and then it's cut. Abruptly. In the middle of a sentence. And you're presented with "Purchase DLC to continue" screen. It's not a classic example of "get fake ending with basegame and real ending with the DLC". No no n…

Right off the hop, this game feels incredibly cheap, and I am genuinely shocked it has “mostly positive” reviews on Steam. At full price, it is around $13 CAD. Even on sale, I found it for $2.59, and honestly, buying a coffee would have been a better use of the money. I forced myself through just over an hour, and it was rough. To be clear, I do not think the developers were trying to rip anyone off. A game was made, and effort clearly went into it. But I still do not think this is worth buying. The controls are a bad first impression. The game did not clearly show the interaction button, so I had to dig through the menu to find it. It was Spacebar, by the way. I immediately changed it to E. The character I played was also deeply uncomfortable. His dialogue felt gross, misogynistic, and fatphobic, and I had zero desire to keep playing as him. The combat has no weight. I got plenty of loot, upgrades, and abilities, but none of it mattered. Most encounters were solved by walking forward and holding the shoot button. The gore and over-the-top zombie kills are probably the best part, but they are not enough. Maybe this had more appeal in 2016, but in 2026, I see no real reason to…

A true mobile to pc port that is actually true to the core! Yes, by pc standard, the game is outdated but if we are to look at games that are being ported from mobile to pc, this one takes the cake. Had a blast, will recommend to try out the VR version if you have or got one!
