The story telling and dialog is fantastic, but the combat is suicidal. If you enjoy the Styx series, this is the start of it all and worth the play. I just wish they would remaster it with modern combat. It would be a masterpiece.

Absolute Cinema. No sequel is a crime

Went straight into it on extreme difficulty, maybe i was a little to ambitious, but since it's an older game i wasn't expecting much of a challenge. I was surprised because it had a fair amount of fights that were quite hard, specially the final boss 3 fights in a row with no saves in between possible. It's a great game, a fair amount of replay ability, you can try different roles/builds for each, at least in normal difficulty, if you go to hardest please go Ark tank with Styx dps, only way i think you can beat the game. I know some people had issues with berserk Ark killing Styx or the combat system being bad. I never had Ark killing Styx, it's just a matter of timmings and controlling the fight. It takes a while to get used to the it, but once you got it you got it. Please don't go to highest difficulty without researching a bit or have one playthrough done, it will spare you some grief. All things considered i would give it a 7,5

I thought the combat was horrific but the story carried the game massively, I couldn't stop playing it, loved the world and the characters. Just stick the game on easy if you aren't willing to do a massive deep dive in the combat system (like me), if you're a Styx fan it's well worth it IMO.

At first, I was struggling a bit, but I was nostalgic. Then I learned to enjoy the gameplay but saw some other problems. Now I'm missing only 2 achievements and by God, I can't wait for it to be over. The first problem I have that was really bothering me: stability issues. When I look at ProtonDB, other people don't seem to have them as much as I do, so YMMV, but for me, these were definitely quite annoying. I had the game freeze to a complete halt over a dozen times, which really doesn't make a run on Extreme difficulty enjoyable, especially with the autosave system. Said autosave system, in conjunction with the cutscenes, is the next part I have to moan about. You never get an autosave mid cutscene (neither do you get the opportunity to save manually mid cutscene), you don't always get an autosave right before one, and you frequently get an autosave immediately after cutscenes. Some cutscenes can be quite long, too. At the same time, you only have a single autosave slot, which means that a new autosave will overwrite the previous one. All of this together makes for a very annoying combo that is a bit tough to work around if you don't already know exactly which cutscenes trigger…

[h1]A great story spoiled with the gameplay[/h1] First things first — the gameplay is not as bad as many are saying. I delayed playing this game for too long because of those reviewers talking about unbearable controls. It is not good, and you pretty much can't do a lot with it, but it is not bad enough to skip this narrative. Now, for the details — it has one of the greatest character portrayals in all of gaming. The story is smooth and natural, which makes following it really enjoyable. The bad part is the interactions in-game — this is a game where you control two characters simultaneously with active pause. At every single encounter, you need to position both characters and fill their action queues (and repeat that cycle until the encounter ends). That cycle has problems: 1) those are boring, repetitive tasks; 2) there are skills and stats that you can distribute... and it's not like you have an actual choice... you can either fail or succeed (just don't forget to make the big one able to tank).
