Played this suuuper late, I know, I was feeling nostalgic for Nerd content with the 20th youtube anniversary. Honestly not anywhere near as bad as I've heard about it; it's challenging but nothing TOO insane outside of the super high difficulties, and even then it's all about memorization and execution like the classic NES games it's modeled after. Fairly short and not a whole lot going on to set it apart from even its contemporary indie run-n-guns/die-a-lot platformers, but it's packed to the brim with so many now-even-more-classic Nerd references, jokes and cameos, I couldn't help but smile throughout.

Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures takes the loud, crude, and deliberately frustrated personality of the famous Angry Video Game Nerd and transforms it into a demanding retro-style action platformer. Developed by FreakZone Games and published by Retroware, the game embraces the kind of old-school design that inspired many of the Nerd's memorable complaints about classic video games. Instead of simply using the AVGN name as decoration, the developers built the entire experience around exaggerated difficulty, gaming references, absurd situations, and irreverent comedy. The result is a compact platforming adventure that feels closely connected to its source material while still providing enough mechanical substance to work as a game in its own right. The basic gameplay follows a familiar side-scrolling formula. Players guide the Nerd through ten stages filled with enemies, environmental traps, moving obstacles, deadly hazards, and bosses. Running, jumping, shooting, and carefully navigating dangerous areas form the foundation of the experience. These straightforward mechanics allow the level design to become the real challenge. Platforms frequently demand accurate jumps, hazards punish…

If you want to buy this, you should opt for the I & II deluxe version of this game as it's just plain superior. This is a difficult action platformer in 8-bit style. It's got some familiar references from AVGN that crack me up, but I mostly enjoyed the old school , punishing jump and shoot gameplay I've come to love from games like Mega Man. Albeit, this game, in my opinion, is harder thand any Mega Man game I've played. There's optional collectibles too Not the best game ever but a solid good time, 3.5/5 .

Now, I'm one that never claims to like difficult games but certain difficult games can be done well. It's all about the speed of the game, the overall fun of the controls and the visuals/audio The Speed: AVGN Adventures has checkpoints well placed throughout so you only have to redo maybe a minute of gameplay each time you die. It keeps the gameplay addictive and you keep wanting to try again because you know the checkpoint is just on the other side of that wall of death blocks that you have to get past. The Controls: The controls are tight and fast meaning each death feels like it mostly falls on your shoulders and it's not the game's sluggish movements that caused you to die Audio/Visual: Not only does this game look great, it's packed with funny jokes and it's got a killer soundtrack. Each death meant I got to spend a little bit more time with each head banging track Overall a great game
