About La-Mulana
✦ AI summary
Explore an ancient labyrinth packed with devious traps, ruthless monsters, and mind-bending puzzles while hunting for the legendary Secret Treasure of Life. This is a brutally challenging retro-style adventure that demands patience, wit, and nerves of steel as you descend deeper into LA-MULANA's unforgiving depths.
LA-MULANA is an “Archaeological Ruin Exploration Action Game,” bringing the classic appeal of adventure with the punishing difficulty of retro-inspired gaming. Search inside ancient ruins, seeking out the “Secret Treasure of Life” – which sleeps in the sprawling ruins of “LA-MULANA” and is said to be the beginning of all civilization. Unfortunately, priceless artifacts very rarely give themselves up easily.Apart from the plethora of traps lying in wait, there are also monsters on the prowl, protecting the ruins. Head for the innermost depths of the ruins while solving a variety of mysteries, fending off monsters, and disarming traps. Forging ahead will be no simple task – the further into the depths you reach, the more difficult the mysteries become. The guardians of LA-MULANA do not take their job lightly.
LA-MULANA on Steam is the PC port version of the acclaimed remake for WiiWare. One of the first NIGORO games, LA-MULANA was originally created back in the creators’ “amateur” days and has been renown worldwide. This game was created based on “that old-time feeling.” The creators wished to play the sort of games that enthralled them back in the day, only with more volume. The operability and difficulty level are certainly not “new school”. However, this game is highly recommended to gamers seeking out that feeling of total immersion that allows you to go full-on head-to-head with a game not found in somewhat lighter terms.
Coming up on it's ninth birthday, LA-MULANA continues to captivate, frustrate and annihilate new and old players alike. Whether it's your first time falling into the ruins or your 900th of getting decimated by Mushussu, we thank you for donning your explorer's hat, hoisting the whip and diving into our game.
Good luck. You're going to need it.

There is nothing else quite like it. A very challenging and uniquely designed, yet flawed, master piece.1 found this helpful
Combat and movement feel awful. The "puzzles" are not fun, the vast majority of them boil down to writing down every note you see and then when you enter a new room check your notes to see if any mention what is in the room and if so then follow the instructions in the note. It is not fun to figure out, it is just time consuming and tiring.1 found this helpful
don't play it for your health too many traps and pranks fk it
It's obvious exactly what era of gaming this game takes after. It's from the era when people thought that the only way for a game to be difficult was to remove player agency. To be the most difficult game, you need to have the most awkward controls and the highest number of unforeseeable death conditions. It's from back when the business model of being a game developer was all to do with optimising how often you could get your players to insert another coin into the arcade machine, by making them die in ways that aren't their fault in carefully-premeditated patterns. The most profitable arcade game (and therefore the most successful arcade game) was the one that was the best at frustrating its players into continuing, without ever frustrating them into quitting. Our understanding of entertainment has come a long way since then. Some people will like this, but I very much do not.
best and worst game
I had to think long and hard about this one, but I cannot recommend the game. I did enjoy my experience with it but I am in the vast minority of players and even I end up coming away from the game disappointed. I enjoy retro games, I enjoy challenges, I enjoy ball punching difficulty and this game has those things. But nobody is completing this game without either a guide or hundreds of hours. There are still guides with certain achievements that can't say with 100% certainty how to get them. Some of the puzzles in the game work very well and you'll feel good figuring them out. Some of them are beyond impossible without trial and error for hours on end. If you DO want to play this game, I would say generally the first 4 bosses are doable. Then the next two, doable but you will need to put in a lot of work. For the last 2 bosses? Dozens of hours of work. For the last boss? You've cheated. You did not figure it out and if anybody asked you to show your work you would not be able to. I have heard that the 2nd game in the series is more approachable and one day I will check it out, but on this night I cannot recommend anybody this game unless they are specifically looking to spend 100…
