Mech Engineer

Absolutely NOT as intimidating as it looks. Sure the initial learning curve is rather steep but other than that you can experiment a lot, tinker with individual components and get on your feet pretty fast. The game at it's core is more so resource management than active mech combat. Best you can usually do is to steer your guys away from walking into tornadoes and other hazards. Everything else is building, exploring and experimenting with what you have available. The iterative nature is pretty cool, but also currently there's not much of a mid game section since you can rush the best in slot stuff (roughly speaking, most of weaponry has it's own uses and nothing is truly useless). This leads to a bit of a decision paralysis at least for me. But other than that, it's fun to tinker and fun to figure out. You ever wanted to feel yourself like a handler from Armored Core rather than the pilot? Then it is for you, especially for the price of a slice of pizza.

Its hard to judge the game, the ui is just that bad... Its not intuitive, I am yet to find exit button on the menu, you need to start cores (how? the workbench thing) and its like that for each menu. A lot of things don't have tooltips. The tutorial is not helpful. So you will learn it through trial and error and not through tutorial etc. Not much in 3rd party materials, so its really poor choice here. There might be something behind all of this UI, but the UI makes it painful to look for it and does so for no reason.

The game felt like it had it all. But the further you get into it, the more garbage it becomes. -The priority target do not work. -In a town of 10.000 people, there is only room for 1 person in school, and 2 people in the hospital. -The menues is a terrible mess of going back and forth 100 times to find what you need. -The autosave punishes you extremely hard, for trying to figure out the game, that you are forced to figure out. -Nothing is explained, to the point that i played 20 hours without knowing basic but highly important things. -Also game difficulty goes from 1 to 100 with no ladder in between. Killing surface aliens is no problem, but forget about every killing aliens in lairs. -I probably spent 50% of my playtime just googeling how the hell things workes. Then, after 20 hours of this mess, i accidentally click new game by mistake, quit back out to the menu, and the autosave completely wiped my progress... What a complete joke of a game...

Absolutely amazing game once you get over the beginning learning curve (which if you actually read is not that bad). Really deserves to be far more popular than it is.
