There's three reasons why I can't recommend this game: 1. The more I learn about it, the more I dislike it. 2. It fails laughably at helping you understand what any of the units do. Descriptions are worthless. 3. For an AFK Auto-Battler, it's painfully slow. There is a speed up option, but it requires unanimous votes and only appears after 15 seconds. Units fight each other, but the targeting is completely borked. You will think it doesn't make sense at first, and when you finally understand how it works, you won't like it. Let me give you an example - Big Flamethrower Unit designed to deal with lots of swarming small ones, yeah? Well, if the swarm is right behind a large unit, the swarm doesn't take any AoE damage. The way units read on paper and the way they feel on the battlefied is completely out of sync. Some look great on paper and are garbage. Some look garbage on paper and they just work, for reasons unknown. I would put up with this a lot more if games didn't take upwards of 20 minutes. Fell off v1 a while back but have really been liking the Star Expedition mode. On the surface the roguelite mechanics seems like a weird fit and clunky but it's clever once you get used to it. I can see why people don't like it because it requires a different playstyle than the standard mode. Standard modes are like competitive rock paper scissors mixed with chess, you're playing your opponent's current move and predicting move->counter->counter-to-counter into the future. You occasionally weigh the risks of aggressive purchases but mostly are trying to keep a solid foundation. Expedition is more like a puzzle game. Your early positioning and structure matter, but you're playing against the meta (where will most people place their units, what will they buying) and you only need 10 wins. The goal isn't to build a perfect structure, but roll each win into the next without losing too much economic progress. It's much more chill because there's no time pressure, infinite full-refunds and undos. You only need to really focus on the enemy in front of you, exactly how much do you have to commit to beat them and what small tweaks will break their defenses? It lets you play really aggres…

Great game. The negative comments about star expeditions (single player) should be taken lightly. The game is designed around the competitive multiplayer - where your opponent faces the same limitations of positioning as you. The jostle between what to place, where to place it, how much to diversify, etc. is unlike any other game I have seen. I genuinely think about this game when at work.
