Mecha Knights: Nightmare

The game's not BAD, but underwhelming at the best of times. You get a bunch of new equipment after each mission but it doesn't tag what's new and what you've already had. Enemies are pretty same-y (at least as far as I got in 4 hours). Upgrade system is unsatisfying. Main character's voice acting sounds like he's imitating Batman Begins but has a sore throat. Visually unimpressive for the game's load time. Extremely forgettable story so far. AGGRESSIVE between-missions music intensity while I'm just putzing around with loadout. As for what's GOOD about it: .... .... ... I guess the controls are easy enough to learn. I dunno, is "It has mechs" enough for you?

Janky and low budget, but still fun to play. It could use a lot more polish, especially in making some weapon choices more viable, more enemy movement patterns (they all follow a straight line towards you or an objective) and in map variety - the mission where you have to defend the ships from swarms of flying enemies sucks hard. However, since the solo dev moved on to the sequel, we're stuck with this as it is. For some reason, the MC's voice reminds me of Kung Fury.

Fun little mech game. A bit slow pacing at first but it picks up and then the expansion really takes it to the next level. Upgrade your allies!

I really wanted to like this game, it has pretty good controls and decent voice acting, it's got a lot of really cool things going for it. BUT THE AI IS BRAINDEAD It pulls me out of the action so fast. The enemy I can excuse, because if you couldn't tell from the description, this is one of those mecha games where you fight Kaijus other than giant mechs like yourself, which is a trope I don't really like that much but was going to look over. But... It's a bit lame. And furthermore, your ally AI? Practically nonexistant. In the missions, they will not move a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ muscle. They stand idle and sometimes shoot. I'm sorry, I can't excuse that. Beyond that though, mission structure is virtually identical mission to mission, with very few differences in set dressing too. I'm sorry man, I hope the next game is good, I heard great things about this one but I can't recommend it to anyone really.

A short and polished enough game where you will enjoy exploding armies of monsters. Narrating a mostly cliché and bland story, it has its moments of pure cringe and some of surprise. The UI is usable but clunky and the game finishes before many of its mechanics are really put to the test. Overall it may value its price if discounted.

Armored Core lite but mowing down giant zombies and without any flying, just zooming. "Hell in Baku"/10 would play again.
