The Mine (2024)

[b]This is only a part of a game and not complete.[/b] Just as things were picking up and getting interesting you get hit with a, "To be Continued..." and the credits roll. I paid full price, almost $20 Canadian, and was sold a full game. It had great moments, wonderfully fitting music, and I can tell the passion put into it by the solo developer. The setting and story is interesting and unique, but [b]if you were expecting a full game here, beware.[/b] My honest hope is the developer will put out an update and complete The Mine. If that happens, I would gladly change my review to positive and support this developer further.

Seeing “TO BE CONTINUED” almost right as a larger plot is starting sucks the energy out of an experience that already didn’t have much going for it. A moody introduction to the mine itself is a standout moment to be sure, but puttering around town doing small interactions isn’t compelling enough to make up the entirety of this small point and click adventure.

Pretty fun indie game, short and sweet experience. Liked the music, the voice acting, and sense of humor.

This is a really short game for the price I paid. Found it hard to navigate in the tunnels. I really now regret paying and playing this game.

I’m always very pleased when game developers manage to find some cool new setting to be used in their games. The Mine might not have the most original title, but the world the game takes place certainly is. You are part of a Swedish mining crew in the seventeenth century. The massive copper mine is your second home, but as point & click traditions require, there’s a whole lot of other stuff you can do besides working. The town of Elsborg has its fair share of eccentric characters you can interact with and puzzles to solve. Let’s start with a positive note. The soundtrack is great, as it fits the mood of the game spot-on. The music does compliment the historical setting quite well. The Mine almost feels like western. I’m also pretty impressed by the fact that there are several different solutions to puzzles, which does create variety and replay value, which is not that commonplace in adventure games. The overall design of the puzzles is also pretty good, although there are some exceptions. Sometimes the clues are a bit vague, and I couldn’t find one key element of one major puzzle without the help of the developers. The game is done in 3D, which does create a set of problems. …
