Scampr

Scampr is an unusual but beautiful game. I would classify it as a walking simulator where you interact with objects now and then. Good value for money. You are a squirrel in a hamlet invented by aliens to replicate life on earth as remembered by a goldfish. A goldfishes view of life is very limited, so expect the weird and wonderful. You throw acorns which become giraffes and whales fly in the sky. But Mr goldfish is missing, so you have to track him down and set him free and activate some animals along the way. There is very little story....it is all in the prologue and nothing else after that. Graphics are good and very realistic. Music is ok. The world is quite large with hidden tunnels and caves to search. There is a good map which helps you to find the objectives you need to complete. Movement is good and you can go quite fast. Squirrels are very agile, so you're able to jump a long distance and climb up trees and fences. There is a train that carries you to the distant parts of the world if you get tired of running along on foot. Or you can ride a whale to have an overview of the world and work out where to go. Alright. [i]Scampr[/i] is done and dusted. You play as an alien scientist taking the form of a squirrel who is tasked with trying to replicate Earth as remembered by a goldfish. As you can imagine, the goldfish’s memories and perception might be a tad skewed. Said goldfish is also lost though, and so one of your tasks will be to find the goldfish. You’re not going to really get any of this from the game itself, so it’s good the devs decided to set up the world’s story in the product description, lol. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3172852806 Things skewed by the goldfish’s recollections include acorns being able to create giraffes and unpetrify creatures, whales flying and being rideable, mushrooms making music, fish flying, and so on. The sealife flying does make sense from a fish’s perspective though, lol. Anyway, you, an alien scientist squirrel, have a shopping list of objectives, from exploring caves to taking a train through the map, to the aforementioned riding whales, and so on. This entire thing felt like a fever dream.

This is a beautiful game with gorgeous scenery. I was so excited to play it that as soon as I jumped in I started running and jumping everywhere! That's when I noticed it... the motion blur was almost unbearable. That said I liked the idea, I loved the gorgeous scenery, so I kept pushing on. I kept going - and a half hour into playing I had such a bad headache I had to turn it off. :-( I can't recommend it in it's current state as I couldn't really get through that much of it, but I can say that it is a beautiful game and I wish it didn't have such an impact on my head. Scampr Is pure love of fantasy exploration. It is lush, rewarding of imaginative play, and gratifying to both the senses and the sense of storied past. Any age can enjoy it. There's mystery and challenge, without threat. Relaxing and fun, I recommend Scampr to any child or adult eager for discovery.

A very bizarre landscape, but it all looks very pretty and mysterious. The controls were easy to use and it was a lovely experience. The graphics were a little too high for my PC so I had to have everything on the lowest settings to avoid the screen stuttering when I moved. I also feel the game world was a little too big, it felt like it took a while to get to the different locations. Overall a recommend if you just want to vibe as a squirrel!
