Pascal's Wager: Definitive Edition

Retro modern gaming. There are a bit stiff gameplay unfortunately. Take a medieval fantasy journey with playable characters. The story is well done for a little studio. ⭐5/5⭐

Even when I’m not enjoying a souls game I try to find one redeeming feature; something that the game does right despite not appealing to me personally. Unfortunately Pascal’s Wager doesn’t just need a bit more time in the oven, it needs to be put aside entirely and forgotten about. I suppose the fact that it started off as a mobile game should have already sent some alarm bells ringing, but other titles have managed to transition quite well from smaller screens to big ones, and the store page promised entirely reworked controls along with the upgraded graphics. In any case, I pressed start, met up with protagonist Terrance, and watched the opening cinematic which set the scene. My hopes were still high when I played through the tutorial area. Movement was fine, although the camera was incredibly jerky, as if I was dropping frames. After investigating online this is supposedly a feature rather than a bug, but it was an ominous omen of things to come. Combat-wise, you have your typical light and heavy-attack, dodge roll and simple parry system, and unlock further skills that use you “rage” meter that you build up by either dealing or taking damage. This game is clunkier than Mortal Shell Gave this a solid try, but after the 14th time of having button inputs being ignored (even by simply trying to hit light attacks twice in a row) and being punished for it, I gave this game up. And on top of it all, movement is cucked with how your character will keep walking after letting go of a direction. You will encounter large "frogs(?)" around the maps that require you to give them offerings of certain set items which includes either: Health potions, main source of level up material, or a specific item that randomly drops. Which ones does the "frog" wants? You gotta try all three options to figure it out by watching it's reaction to what makes it the happiest. Give it not enough of what it wants, and the little fella runs away with EVERYTHING you gave up with no reward in return. Why would you want to give it offerings? The "frog" hands you a special currency that can only be spent in-between missions with a special character to get various strong equipment that usually cost up to the amount of fingers on a hand or two (maybe even counting the toes on your feet too). Slow character, unresponsive hit feedback, NO DIFFERENT WEAPONS, except if you play another character but not really (forced to take main guy along and have to play solo with him sometimes, making the entire thing moot), barely any customizability and useless attributes. I played plenty of Souls-like clones and this is just too sub-bar to force myself through.
