Update after beating game
What a great game. Really solid story, really great world, just for the pacing, price, and experience you can't do much better. This game deserves a ton of love. Each party member is mechanically very distinct and you can do a lot with your team design. Towards the end magic definitely becomes your most worthwhile game actions, but that's fine. The real-time/turn based fusion you get lends itself to making sure your opponents are crowd controlled while you unload your combos. In that respect, it's actually very cool and you need to start issuing those game actions quickly. If you want, and for a specific side dungeon you can alter your team to make a fairly good physical team but it's a lot more work than meteor dropping with power howl active.
Original Review
I'm I think roughly halfway through the game at this point. Even if at this point the game doesn't get any better, my 5 hours has been such an absolute delight. It's cool playing an RPG in a mostly modern setting. The writing has been pretty solid and not obnoxious. The characters are charming and go through fun development. The 8bit style has been really fun to look at. The…2 found this helpful
I can only assume the low reviews on awesome games like this is some sort of conspiracy on the part of Big Indie to drive me insane. Well it's not going to work because I'm already insane!! Geo Mythica slaps. It's like a cousin sharing the families of StarTropics and Final Fantasy 12. And when have you ever heard that in your life? Hell, when have you last seen a StarTropics-inspired indie game? If ever? Don't just wait until Infinite Alliance comes out, play Geo Mythica! Learn 4 words of another language! Fight lots of robots! Travel to New Orleans! Discover the spooky secrets of a music shop!2 found this helpful
Honestly I would consider the creator of this game.......a genius, and a lover of games. As I played through Geo Mythica, I caught most references, most mentions of love for a game that brought joy to me as a child. Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and even Final Fantasy 12, which this game reminds me the most of. If you are a fan of action games that demand a knowledge of turn-based strategy, I implore you to play this game. There are so many beautiful touches. The world map models our own, of Earth. Sure it's silly to walk to seconds from California to New Orleans, but what does it matter? The joy of games is that it shows us the fantasy of saving our world, these days full of so much turmoil. So many little touches born from a lover of games. Learn languages so you can speak to NPCS in foreign destinations. Explore towns around the world, and even learn small lore snippets about cultures around our world. Its so beautifully retro, but I'm a believer that art takes many forms, and this is one of them. He included a developer commentary for EVERY SINGLE ROOM that shows how he felt about every decision he made in this game. This is a labor of love and you will not …1 found this helpful
