RPG Maker strikes again! LONER is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. There's no English translation for the game, but that's ok. It turns out, the language of bad games is universal. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Notably the developer here couldn't work out how to use RPG Maker to make an RPG... and that's the only thing RPG Maker can do properly... except it's not even very good for making RPGs. LONER is a compact 2D adventure centered on exploration, curiosity, and a young protagonist determined to prove that her unusual beliefs are more than imagination. The story follows Aline, a student fascinated by extraterrestrial life despite being mocked by her classmates for taking the subject seriously. Instead of simply accepting their skepticism, she decides to investigate for herself and search for evidence that could prove aliens really exist. It is a straightforward premise, but it gives the adventure a clear sense of purpose from the beginning. Developed by LTZinc and published by Conglomerate 5, the game approaches its science-fiction theme from the perspective of a relatively simple quest adventure rather than an action-heavy experience. Players explore the world as Aline, interact with characters, search different locations, uncover clues, complete smaller objectives, and gradually advance the central investigation. It looks like someone put in a lot of work at the start of a game. Unfortunately it's just that. The START of a game. There's combat system, but it's not fleshed out, there's the start of a story, but it ends abruptly. They do have it translated into several languages though, so that's a plus! Had fun, but needs to be finished before this can be called a game.

A sweet story with a girl starring who fought for her place in the world. The gameplay boils down to running around the locations and interacting with the NPCs to complete the main story quests, there are also additional quests that expand the plot at least a little.
