[b]icewords[/b] is a hex-based word game featuring animals that aren't cats. excellent start, but unfortunately it's [b]endless score attack[/b], no campaign, hand-made levels or anything, so it wasn't going to keep me entertained for too long. you play as a penguin waddling around on an iceberg made up of hexagons. move by [b]spelling words at least 2 letters long[/b] and try to knock off your adversaries to survive as long as possible. tiles you land on at the end of a word get their letters removed, same for ones where enemies stood before their move. can't do anything with empty tiles, but extra letters are awarded for words of at least 3 letters. you can have up to 2 (the rest goes on the board if there's room), use them to change the layout a bit to your advantage. there's also a powerful blizzard power-up that quickly creates some breathing room once it's charged and used. there are [b]5 enemies[/b], tiles blinking black indicate imminent appearances, so they can be blocked. based on movement you can push, slam or throw them, ideally far enough so they land in the water or bump into each other, which also gets rid of them. enemies also move around on their own (without the…

I was meant to write a review for this ages ago but got side tracked. Sorry! If you enjoy word games this is a really original and clever concept. It's a mixture of play resembling Boggle, where you chain together letters on a hexagonal grid to form words and score points, and a basic combat system where you have to throw or push enemies off the board, whilst avoiding their attacks. Letters disappear as you jump on the tiles, but new letters appear if you can chain some decent words together. There's also a limited ability to change letters to help make words. I really liked the addition of word descriptions popping up as the score is revealed for that word. The aim of the game is to beat your high score and that is the only mode available. I think it would really benefit from an online leader board. It's all based around a winter and Christmas theme and has upbeat music playing throughout. What a wonderful little game I've stumbled upon. For the low price of £2, this is a treat for any word game enjoyers who also happen to be fans of Into the Breach. Yes, it's a weird combination, but it works! You find words on a grid, word puzzle business as usual -- except there are ENEMIES on the grid too. And your character (who is a penguin, because of course he is) walks along the tiles of the word you scored and either pushes or throws the enemies nearby, depending on their position. And if you don't pay attention to your positioning, the enemies are gonna push you off the grid and you'll lose! The longer the word, the bigger the score multiplier, but it might well be that a really good word will put you in a bad position, and you'd be prudent to think twice, no matter how temping it might seem. The level of tactical thinking required is on par with Into The Breach. Yes, seriously. Enable "show turn order" in the options -- it's a must-have. The main menu looks like it's from a 2000's videogame (which I think is charming!), the word definitions that sometimes appear when you score a word often seem more than a little off, and there are no levels or objectives -- just playi…

A tiny game - but pretty fun. Would probably fit great on Deck, but it's great for a short break. For the price - I'd say probably worth it. On sale - definitely worth it.
