The Bleakest Keep

I really like the PS1 aesthetic, but some areas are way too dark and the visuals could use more polish. My biggest problem is how unnecessarily punishing the game feels healing and loot are too limited and weapons break too easily, melee feels weak, and some enemies have too much health. The worst part is the long stretches between bosses filled with repetitive enemies—you eventually just feel exhausted and want to reach the next boss, especially when your health and ammo are already low. Falling can instantly kill you, and if you die you have to repeat the entire run from the beginning. There are shortcuts, but they don’t make restarting everything feel any less frustrating.

Honestly, one of the worst roguelikes I've ever tried. Not only the lack of music is an horrendous choice for an action game wich main focus is going as fast as you can, but also coming along with a clunky gameplay relying on the "souls-like" tag, c'mon man even DS1 feels more agile compared to this. Not only that but the lack of REAL variety and options to choose and build is absurd it barely gets to be called a roguelikes game. Came for the goons, left for the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.

This was actually one of my first ever roguelike games I've played and it was amazing. Having my friends see me fail, win, and succeed was definitely a highlight and the game has so much charm, I'm glad too see the creator is making a 2nd game now! The only downside i would say is the game tends to be very dark but i could see why considering the setting if the game. Overall 10\10

The Peakest Peak

I got and tried out Bleakest Keep, and honestly I didn't really like it that much. Which is really upsetting to me because i looove the art style and the combat alot, but it leaves alot to be desired in some areas. I think it's the fact that once you die, there is no real benefit, unlike most Roguelikes, where you get some type of point or experience to put towards upgrading or leveling up, then starting the game a little bit easier for yourself. The only "skill tree" like mechanic there is, requires you to either die a certain amount of times, or kill one of the bosses, which is hard by it self. I think if you are into more difficult gameplay, with little rewards on the way to the end, then this is the game for you, but for me, it didn't hold my attention for very long. Also, the lack of background music didn't help, especially after watching the trailer with the music paired with it.
