The Great Yokai of the Haunted Halls

This game is very short and should only be purchased at a 20% discount or more. The combat is generic and dull, RPG Maker combat. The premise involves escaping a cursed school by making your way down three floors. The enemies are bland and uninspired. While there are some scenes, they are just still images with some sound effects—not much to write celebrate. Overall, there’s little to recommend here. The game feels unremarkable and not worth the time or money.

The game was ok. I'm just not into shipbuilding, so yacht-sized objects aren't for me. Luckily I spent some time overlevelling, so the last battles were quite easy.

The Great Yokai of the Haunted Halls takes a familiar haunted-school concept and turns it into a compact supernatural RPG filled with yokai, mysterious characters, exploration, and traditional turn-based combat. Developed by kuronekoCafe and published by Kagura Games, the adventure begins when the protagonist accompanies childhood friend Yua into an aging campus building to retrieve a book. What initially appears to be a simple task quickly goes wrong as the pair become trapped in a distorted supernatural realm populated by spirits and other dangerous entities. The old campus building provides an effective backdrop for the adventure. Familiar classrooms and corridors gradually become unsettling as supernatural forces take control of the surroundings. Rather than relying entirely on conventional horror, the game mixes eerie situations with colorful characters and Japanese folklore. This approach gives the setting its own personality, creating an atmosphere that can shift between mysterious, playful, and threatening without abandoning its RPG foundations. I really rather enjoyed this game. Simplistic combat, obviously, but the scenes are good, the heroines have fun personalities, and there's a decent amount of customizability. The pixel art and the 2D CG art are incredible, and there's a very nice sense of mutual affection and honest love with the protagonists over the severe objectification seen in other hentai works.
