Played On Steam Deck
Depths of Faveg caught my eye with its retro, roguelike charm, but after about an hour (and two crashes), I found myself struggling to stay interested. The core idea is actually pretty neat—you pick three different classes for your party, which then can gain skills for 2 additional classes each (3x3, 9 classes), and you eventually mix and match them for tactical depth. But here's the catch: the skill costs felt way off-balance. Apart from basic healing, which was reasonably affordable, most abilities had super-high SP costs. This meant my battles devolved quickly into repetitive rounds of basic attacks, saving up precious SP purely for emergency heals. Mid-game class upgrades felt particularly weird, too. I'd choose an upgrade and suddenly watch my health bar shrink visually, even though I knew my actual HP had gone up. Scaling the health bar properly instead of just adding flat numbers might've solved this confusing quirk. Then there's the boss difficulty spike—the final boss was significantly stronger than the first, but again, instead of feeling tactical, it turned into a tedious marathon of basic hits, punctuated by the occasional necessa…5 found this helpful
interesting I guess, but I felt I had little to no control over how the runs went. basically anything besides your awful basic attack requires mana, and mana doesn't regenerate between fights, so if you don't manage to beat the boss after one or two fights your run is just over because you're out of mana. I don't really see where the strategy comes in to it... frankly, I had a miserable time.2 found this helpful
After sinking over 40 hours into Depths of Faveg and unlocking every single achievement, I can confidently say this game is a hidden gem in the roguelike dungeon-crawler genre. From its strategic combat to the sheer diversity of builds, Depths of Faveg constantly kept me engaged, always challenging me to refine my tactics and experiment with new approaches. One of the game’s greatest strengths is its class system. Each class feels genuinely distinct, offering a unique playstyle that encourages replayability. Whether you want to be a berserker tearing through enemies with raw power, a meticulous mage casting devastating spells, or a devout priest sustaining your party through divine intervention, every run feels fresh. The combination of active and passive abilities adds a layer of depth that kept me theorycrafting for hours. What stood out the most to me was the intricate buff and debuff system, which reminded me of Shin Megami Tensei's combat mechanics. In SMT, success often hinges on stacking buffs and exploiting enemy weaknesses, and Depths of Faveg captures that same strategic tension. Mastering when to amplify your own damage, bolster your defenses, or debilitate your foes b…1 found this helpful
Short difficult combat centred wrpg roguelike with random classes. Only 7 floors but challenging so will likely give your moneys worth then some. Random classes are fun though can be annoying, i often start scum my runs to get classes i like. If replaying a short game and random classes (with a reroll at each level) doesn't ruin it for you then you'll likely enjoy this game and get more than your moneys worth. Edit: I will save the decision to not allow save and quit on a roguelike in 2024 is bizarre choice. A successful run is about 2- 3 hours though on most you'll die before then. But its a cheap game with a decent amount of playtime and challenge.1 found this helpful
Nothing extraordinary. JRPG-style fights with an interesting choice of progression as you choose a class randomly on every level up, so it can lead to interesting resolutions. But the lack of mouse control is an interesting choice
I beat your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "Surviving the Game As A Barbarian" ass game, where's my isekai at.
