Asterix & Obelix XXL 3 - The Crystal Menhir

It is fun in coop with a kid. Alone, not so much. The mix rating must not fool you; they cry because it is not a TPS like the previous two, but at least it runs properly.

Like all the other ones this is absolute trash. You run around this empty world trying to complete puzzles and quests. Most of the combat is jank where you spam attack, but you can get instant chain stunned by archers and spear throwers. You upgrade health and special abilities but nothing really changes the gameplay. You get an upgraded stone, but mostly it is for puzzle solving, some of which are super janky and finnicky. The platforming isn't good which is also due to there being no jump for some reason. The AI is awful as they will run and stand in a corner or not follow you across bridges at times. The final boss fight is one of the worst ever designed, having never ending waves of guys while you fight things that slam down 1-4x at a time in near homing, with enemies with ranged instant stuns, and the ability to instant take your attack weapon away with a homing attack that can't be dodged. Its as stupid and poorly designed as it sounds. Sometimes you'll be lost where to go and there can be bugged quest markers as you have 1 area to go but it will show you 3 markers. To start with, I am a fan of Asterix and Obelix, and I really enjoyed the game, playing it with my partnet in co-op. Buuuuuut apart from enjoying punching Romans, the game is full of bugs. There are a lot of spots where the characters get stuck over a simple stair step and the worst is that while playing the game the gates I have opened closes by themselves randomly. When I reached a certain point in the game in which I unlocked a gate providing me access close to the start of this level the gate closed behind me and I had to do everything all over again... If I weren't so close to completing the game, I would probably have dropped it.

I am a big fan of asterix and obelix comics and games but this one is not good. the game has potential and would be fun to play if it had less lag. the controls are weird, pourly optimised. I know i play on a laptop creating more lag but i can still play CS2 without problems, I was just playing when my laptop got low battery and the "you have low battery screen" crashed the game. most indie games are better optimised.

The art style is great, very reminiscent of the original comics, as is much of the writing. However, the combat is both extremely basic and overly complicated because whilst 'attack' is a single button for a single combo, all special attacks require 2 button presses. There are only 7 types of enemies (at least up to the point where I stopped playing), and no bosses that I'd seen. But then comes the biggest problems: glitches and "jumping". Firstly, the glitches aren't about no-clipping into walls, physics going haywire, or bodies stretching out wildly, they are solely environmental collision glitches. Biggest example, being unable to to go down a set of stairs because an invisible wall half an inch high is in the way. In virtually any other game, you'd just sump over it, but in this game, the only "jump" is a forward roll. True, the roll gets you over these annoying little invisible walls, but then the game wants you to use the roll for platforming. Whether it works or not is completely random, but most of the time, not.
