As a 15-year veteran of RuneScape with a maxed Ironman account, I really, really wanted to like RuneScape: Dragonwilds. But I cannot recommend it because the combat is too difficult and dying is far too punishing. I am 9 hours deep in the game and I have spent probably a third of it running back to my gravestone and then back to base to repair. Your character is ill prepared to handle more than one enemy at once, but the game constantly throws two, three, even four or more enemies at you simultaneously, which is an instant death sentence as soon as your sprint runs out. The first dungeon that the main quest guides you to is jam packed with multi-mob pulls that are just brutal. You can't even cheese them with consumables because of the game's "overeating" mechanic that prevents you from spam-healing yourself. After my fifth death having made virtually no progress I threw in the towel and decided this game isn't for me. It's no fun doing a 5+ minute run to your dropped loot and back to base, then back to the dungeon entrance for one more crack at it, every single time you fail. If I wanted that, I'd play World of Warcraft Classic. And I reiterate -- this is the first dungeon in the g…

Despite a few annoyances and areas that could benefit from some quality-of-life improvements, RuneScape: Dragonwilds is a decent game and one of the better survival games If you enjoy MMO style monster slaying and grinding, combined with the survival elements of a game like Valheim, then this could be right up your street. It can be played either solo or coop, with dungeons to explore and bosses to fight that scale with the number of players in the world. This works particularly well if you and your friends are at slightly different levels or have different gear, as the difficulty adjusts well accordingly. Dungeons also feature obstacles and traps which add some variety but in all honesty nothing new in this genre. I've only been playing for a couple of weeks, but the updates released so far have already added a fair amount to the game. It's also nice to see that there is a strong development roadmap, which gives the game plenty of potential going forward. This is a game you'll probably play loads of then revisit periodically to play the updates to the story and world. There are a few quality-of-life areas that I think could be improved but they don't taint the experience too m…
