Skin Deep

I really missed games like this. It’s an immersive sim with a retro touch, reminiscent of No One Lives Forever mixed in with a heavy dose of Die Hard. Each level brings something new to play around with and lets you tackle things in a multitude of wacky ways. The combat is scrappy. You will be getting by with whatever you can grab off the coffee table, which was super fun. Stealth was great and pretty forgiving at times.

It's a pretty fun dark messiah of might and magic but in space type of game. lot's of weird shenanigans and probably wraps up right when it starts getting stale

I have never really been much of an immersive sim guy, but Skin Deep drew me in with it's aesthetic and its silliness. What I found was a game that allowed for those moments of hilarity, but also oozes with style and tells its story well. Also, the opening sequence is incredible.

Skin Deep is a really fun little immersive sim. You play as basically an insurance commando who gets defrosted whenever space pirates take over a ship, and your job is to sneak around, rescue the cat crew, and somehow deal with everyone using whatever random crap you can find around the ship. And that's basically where the game shines. You're constantly improvising with the environment: making enemies slip on banana peels or soap, throwing pepper at them to make them sneeze, breaking windows and throwing stuff into space, messing with the ship's systems, finding alternative routes through vents, etc. You're almost always under-equipped, so figuring out some stupid solution to a problem is extremely satisfying. There aren't actually THAT many mechanics, especially compared to bigger immersive sims, but I think the length of the game makes that work. It ends pretty much exactly when you've figured everything out and before abusing the same tricks starts getting boring. It's short, focused, and doesn't waste your time. My biggest complaint is actually that I wish some of the ships pushed the concept further. Most are fun to explore, but I would've loved a few more levels with…

So ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun! Been looking for something to scratch that immersive sim itch that I've had ever since playing the Deus Ex franchise. Now this game doesn't come anywhere close to being as great as those games, but it does satisfy that itch. Pros: The story follows Nina a former galactic assassin turned insurance commando. She's also accompanied by talking cats through most of the story. Cats have for some reason evolved and are now able to function in society like human beings. At the start of every mission you wake up from a cryo-chamber and your mission is to rescue cats and kill space pirates that have infiltrated the ship that you are to protect. It's a simple concept that works great for a game like this. Outside of this Nina also has a personal conflict, with her being hunted down by a rival pirate leader. I loved this story and just the entire world of this game. I am a bit biased though since I love cats and sci-fi. The gameplay is buttery smooth. Fast, satisfying, fun, engaging, It's perfect for a game like this. I was so hooked by the gameplay that I actually finished this the same day that I started it. A really fun imsim that’s funny and inventive. I won’t spoil anything but there are a few things that I haven’t seen any other imsim do, and I’ve been playing them since the 90’s so well done Blendo Games. The only small negative is that it perhaps slightly outstays its welcome, I was ready to be done a couple of missions before the end, when the game has basically shown you everything it has already and it’s just getting a bit harder. But that’s just me, many people might welcome the extra missions. Well worth the purchase either way.
