About 101010
101010 is a simple VR puzzle game created as a class project for CS 498 VR at UIUC to help showcase the capabilities of VR. Place 3D blocks in virtual reality and clear lines to earn points. How long can you last? How high of a score can you earn?
Designed for use with Occulus Rift. Inspired by the game 1010. Created by Eric Shen, Miranda Li, Hunter Ha Huynh, Changcheng Fu, and Jenny Chen.
Features
- Grab 3D blocks in virtual reality with your own hands.
- Place blocks strategically in a 3D grid.
- Clear lines to earn points (both horizontally and vertically).
- Rotate the grid if you wish.
- You are given a constant amount of time to place each block, so don't dawdle!
- If you do not successfully place a block in time, it's game over.
- Develops spatial ability, visual memory, and quick thinking.

"101010" is a pointless, and frankly sad little VR tech demo that probably took less than a weekend to slap together. The idea behind this homework project is you wave your arms around in VR to pack Tetris like blocks into a grid. There's a time limit so wave your arms around as fast as you can! Needless to say this was a massive flop. This feels more like a tech demo or a project smacked together hurriedly to try make a kind of minimum viable product just good enough to pass the developers unambitious idea and shove it into Steam Direct to see if you can actually pay and publish junk through Steam Direct. Yeah, you can. Is this good for gamers? Nope. This game features very lacklustre minimalist "art" for graphics instead of anything remotely contemporary. I'm sure the "developer" thought this would come across as "artistic", but it doesn't, it comes across as "really lazy". Yes, contemporary 3D graphics take a lot of time and effort to create. That doesn't mean it's okay not to bother! Developers must try to understand that gaming is a visual medium, and gamers spend a lot of money on high end gaming rigs for a reason. Что особенно подкупает, так это отсутствие каких-либо ограничений по времени или давления. Ты можешь спокойно обдумывать каждый ход, экспериментировать с различными раскладами и находить самые изящные решения. По мере прохождения уровней открываются новые, более сложные испытания, которые заставляют по-новому взглянуть на, казалось бы, знакомые элементы.
