Dodge asteroids, missiles, photon blasts, and other hazards in a 33-stage avoidance game. It's okay, but unlikely to provide much value beyond its singular campaign and identical difficulties.
This review is intended to be informational, but due to steam forcing me to take a side, choosing recommended simply because it's bug free and provides 1-2 hours of playtime for its price. That said, I think your money is better spent elsewhere.
Pros

No bugs, hitbox issues, or performance issues
Upgrade shop (lives, speed, smaller ship)
Four difficulties
Over half a dozen hazards with a final boss round
Several music tracks (usually these games only have one)

Cons

Shopping stages are included in the level count, so there's actually less to play
Difficulties vary only by movement speed, number of lives, upgrade costs. The stages are exactly the same each time
The boss fight isn't a fight, it's a bullet hell with a (never explained) gimmic to reflect blue bullets back at it twice
Unlikely to provide replay value beyond unlocking all achievements
Restricted status: Doesn't add to profile stats for completion or…4 found this helpful
33 Rounds is a 2D retro pixel top down action/avoidance game that's been slapped together with the godawful GameMaker Studio video game construction kit from Yoyogames. While this looks like it's some lame Asteroids ripoff, unfortunately it's even more dumbed down than that... it's more like Pac-man without the maze. You just move around and collect gold bars and stars while avoiding the asteroids that scroll across the screen in different directions. I mean, imagine trying to rip off Asteroids but being so bad at game development you can't even manage to work out how to make your spaceship shoot. The best part is, this is completely on-par for most GameMaker Studio games. Like most GameMaker Studio construction kit "games", this features lazy 2D retro pixel "art", instead of professionally done, contemporary PC graphics. There's three main reasons a game will use this crutch. First, the developers lack the talent to come up with contemporary graphics and visuals and hope "nostalgia" will be an acceptable excuse. Second, they lack the proper budget to develop a video game and can't afford to hire anyone who can do video game graphics properly. Finally, they are limited by …2 found this helpful
The game is good for what it is, it Delievers everything it promises. In itself it doesnt seem like much, but it's actually not bad, The Controls work flawlessly, the game gives a challenge, has decent music and pleasant visuals. 33 Rounds is the perfect game for killing some time; you'll complete it in less than an hour. The gameplay revolves around collecting stars to advance and gathering gold for enhancements such as extra lives, speed boost & size reduction with no shooting mechanics present. Whether you prefer WASD controls or Arrow keys, the game accommodates both. The difficulty gradually increases after reaching level 30.1 found this helpful
