4D Minesweeper

A clever take on Minesweeper, but it is missing Steam achievements completely. With over 80 puzzles and multiple game modes, there are plenty of obvious milestones that could have been turned into achievements. It's a shame to have such a unique version of Minesweeper on Steam with nothing for achievement hunters to work towards.

4D Minesweeper takes the classic Minesweeper idea and makes it much more confusing by adding another dimension. Instead of working across a normal flat board, I am dealing with four dimensional spaces where each square can have up to 80 neighbouring squares. That sounds ridiculous at first, and honestly it does take a while for my brain to understand what I am looking at, but once I get used to the way the board is displayed, there is a surprisingly good puzzle game underneath it. What I like most is that the extra dimension is not just there as a gimmick. The larger number of neighbours gives me a lot more information to work with, so I can actually reason through the puzzles instead of constantly relying on guesses. The game includes more than 80 prepared games that can be solved without guessing, which is important because it means the difficulty comes from understanding the information rather than simply getting lucky. I also get helpful highlighting when I enter a square, which makes keeping track of all those connections much more manageable. There are some nice extra options as well. Delta mode changes the numbers so they show how many mines are still remaining around a sq…
