I played this alongside the Spotify playlist, so it kinda felt like reading a book. The chapter titles tell you where to start in the playlist since the game isn’t linear. Loved the story and the town, but the characters really made it for me. About an hour and a half in, you can sort of “unlock” the love interest’s pov (it can take longer depending on which choices you’ve made), which I really enjoyed. I went back and replayed the romance route after and found a hidden scene there, then rewound and played through every ending for each route. **Note: Emergence is a pretty short chapter, so once you get to the end of Kill the Sun, just keep playing. I took a break between them and really shouldn’t have.
ALL MY PREDICTIONS WERE WRONG. I didnt think I would like the watercolor aesthetic at first but ended up getting really into it. there’s almost no animation, but the story is surprisingly good. It feels a little more like reading a book…but with choices. Not sure I would call it a time loop but i guess it technically is, you just don’t replay a lot of the same scenes so it moves kinda fast. Thought it would be romance-horror in the way DDLC was, but it’s not ike that at all. Characters are western coded, you can only date the one character, and you ultimately end up playing as both people in the romance which isn’t as weird as it sounds.
Not normally a VN player, so I’m surprised that I enjoyed this one as much as I did. As a horror fan, my curiosity got the best of me. Even though it felt intentionally trope-y (and maybe a little campy) at first, the mystery was intriguing and I could not have predicted the twist if my life depended on it. Go in blind, it’s better that way. Old-school horror fans will appreciate this weird take on an American rom-com.
