About A Very British Summer

Step into the shoes of Dr. Stickler, the freshly appointed town doctor of Grimshaw.
Care for patients, keep his belly full and teeth clean, and earn financial rewards to build his reputation and fulfill his dream of escaping to sunny Spain.Or… don’t.Murder patients, forge their wills, embezzle their fortunes, and dispose of the evidence in increasingly creative ways. Launder ill-gotten gains through investing in gold and property, grow his wealth, steal fancy cars and chase his dream of escaping to sunny Spain through all kinds of illegal activities.Between appointments, become immersed in small-town life: gamble on sporting events, indulge in darts or pool at the pub, learn to cook, enjoy shadow-puppet cinema, find love (or avoid it entirely), and endure the quirks of a Very British Summer. Will Grimshaw remember Dr. Stickler as a trusted medical professional and friendly neighbour… or its most notorious villain?

Gameplay Features

  • Medical Simulation: Patients are treated through match-4 puzzle challenges. Colored bacteria cells must be aligned to clear infections and earn rewards. Players race against time before infections worsen, spending earnings on resources or to fund criminal schemes. Patients can be kept healthy—or exploited for profit.
  • Character Progression: Dr. Stickler earns money, improves his medical knowledge, and unlocks new treatments, diseases, and recipes. A respected doctor may even be invited to teach as a university professor, where puzzle challenges evolve into sliding-tile puzzles that test logic and planning skills.
  • Life Simulation: Dr. Stickler’s vital attributes—tiredness, hunger, thirst, warmth, and more—must be managed while treating patients, running schemes, and navigating village life. Failure to maintain health affects performance and can result in hospitalization.
  • Crime & Strategy: Forge wills, embezzle money, invest in gold and property, steal cars and inheritance, and cover up crimes—all while avoiding detection.
  • Village Life: Engage in mini-games such as pool and darts, cook meals, watch quirky shadow-puppet films, interact with townsfolk, and pursue—or avoid—romance.
  • Sandbox & Choice: Every decision matters. Players can guide Dr. Stickler to be a trusted doctor, a cunning criminal, or something in between, shaping their own path through Grimshaw.

wtf why is this good, i thought i would hate this and instead played it for nearly 3 hours straight EDIT: played some more, and this is a crazy game. i have some weird bug with the font sizing that causes some things to be offscreen or text to be covered under other elements, i have a feeling this is because i'm on CachyOS Linux and the font packages this game may expect to be present in Windows are not here. highly recommend this game - my only complaint is it feels just a bit too long with the 90 day expectation. i still have about 30 days left after 7 hours, and have hit over a million pennies, but i can't leave for Spain early. FINAL EDIT: just finished the game today - had a really good time with this. enjoyed getting to know the characters and seeing all the art and all the mechanics the game had to offer. will probably do some replays in the future to try some other stuff as well

In a world of FPS, FIFA and Fortnite, it takes true visionaries to make a mark on the gaming landscape. This game is that. Charming graphics, an easy to use interface and enough secrets to encourage multiple playthroughs. This game may not appeal to those who like to be handheld and spoonfed - but for gamers who yearn for something different, this game presents a challenge like no other. So refreshing that there are some developers out there that are willing to shake up the status quo and get game development back to the art form it used to be
